Guest guest
I want to make a vegan, soy-free chocolate torte--flourless or nearly so. Every chocolate torte recipe I come across calls for either a lot of soy or a lot of eggs. Has anyone successfully made one--or something that might work as one--that is both vegan and soy-free? Thanks. Sally

Is there a vegan egg substitute you can use? Carolyn, a newbie here
Guest guest
Hi.If you don't have any allergies to nuts, raw vegan desserts are a great way to avoid soy. Here is a video I came across on Youtube for a raw vegan orange chocolate mousse torte. If you just google raw vegan chocolate torte, you will find all kinds of recipes, none of which contain soy or eggs(of course. ) Hope this helps! ~Valerie --- On Sun, 2/7/10, Carolyn Greene <Carolyn wrote: Carolyn Greene <Carolyn Re: Vegan, soy-free chocolate torte Sunday, February 7, 2010, 10:31 AM  On Sun, Feb 7, 2010 at 12:33 PM, Sally Parrott Ashbrook < sally.parrott@ gmail.com> wrote: > Every chocolate torte recipe I come across calls for either a lot of soy > or > a lot of eggs. Guest guest
I highly doubt a recipe would work trying to sub 5 eggs. Generally in most recipes you can't get good results subbing more than 3 eggs. Can you make your own tofu from something other than soy? We where talking about this a while back and I had found and posted a recipe for hemp tofu and there was company that makes peanut tofu, but in the disclaimer it said the peanut tofu may contain soy, which defeats the whole purpose! Anyway, amazon.com has tofu making kits http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B002LZBNNA/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encod\ ing=UTF8 & m=AEHOSOKU14ZNZ & v=glance(there are a bunch of different ones available, this is just one example) It would be extra work but it's the only real solution I can think of because subbing that many eggs just never works. Gotta come up with a soy free tofu that will work the same as regular tofu! I've been using hemp because of the omegas, but I think most beans and similar type things will work well. Good luck! Guest guest
Yes, that's what I was going to suggest. Are you okay with nuts? Guest guest
Yes, I can have nuts. I even have a cookbook of dessert recipes from the (raw, vegan) restaurant Cafe Gratitude! I didn't think about the raw route for some reason. I will try one of the recipes in there, I guess. Thanks, y'all. Guest guest
Hi Sally, Here is a link to a recipe I am going to make . .I made a coconut cream pie with very similar directions. the pie was fabulous. I don't know, having not made this yet, how much coconut flavor is there, but I like chocolate and coconut together--I used to be an almond joy kind of girl, until I could not have them any more!
