Guest guest
I have that cookbook, too, and I absolutely love it. All the recipes are so easy and usually pretty quick. I've actually posted a few recipes here from this book. It was given to me as a gift a couple of years ago and I tend to turn to it when I can't think of anything to make. Guest guest
I have a chineese vegetarian recipe book. It is, of course, translated into english and the chineese author spends the first 15 pages explaining to us uneducated westerners the proper way of doing a things and explaiining a lot of chineese procedures. It is fun to read and it does have some great recipies. Would you like to have some posted? Katie Mindy-n-Shawn <hunnybunns4233 wrote: I have a question for everyone. Guest guest
Vegetarian ones are out there Mindy; check your library too, to see if they have any. Easy to see whether you like it before you buy it I have a Middle Eastern one I like: Classic Vegetarian Cooking from the Middle East & North Africa by Habeeb Salloum. Also a Taoist cookbook, not veg but convertible. Let me know if you want anything particular posted and I'll try to type it up Let us know if you find some good books Peace, Diane , " Mindy-n-Shawn " <hunnybunns4233 wrote: > > I have a question for everyone. Guest guest
I reccomend Sundays at Moosewood (so named after their practice of featuring a new regional or ethnic cuisine every Sunday). They have chapters on all the major European cuisines, China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Northen Africa, Caribbean, India, Eastern Europe, Middle East, amd more. It is terrific. In addition to the expected appetizers and entrees, they also include recipes in each section for staples, so you can, if you are so inclined, make your on Berbere powder, chutney, spiced ghee, naan, etc. , " Mindy-n-Shawn " <hunnybunns4233 wrote: > > I have a question for everyone. Guest guest
I have Moosewoods New Classics book. It is wonderful. It was one of the book that got me cooking again after deciding not to eat meat. Their recipies are so easy to follow and are so easily personalized. Guest guest
I typed out and posted a great recipe for Mock Sweet and Sour Pork a couple days ago. Apparently it was one that lost when it was sick a few days ago because after all that typing, nothing came through. Here goes again. Katie MOCK SWEET AND SOUR PORK Turn on over to 220* and heat oilfor deep frying in a wok to 300* Sauce 3 cups sugar 3 cups white vinegar 3 cups ketchup 1 cup soy suace 3 cups water cornstarch and water mixture to thicken Combine all ingredients except cornstarch mixture in a sauce pan. bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes. Add cornstarch mixture until it comes to a sauce consistency. Set aside. vegetables 1 cup chopped tomato 1 cup canned pineapple nibblet 1 cup green bell pepper chunks 1 cup onion chunks Prepare vegetables and set asside Mock pork 1 cup shelled, halved walnuts or pecans 1 cup flour 1/4 cup water 1 egg. Make a batter of the flour, water and egg. The batter should be thin and very sticky. Spread nut halves on a cookie sheet and place in over for 15 minutes to insure crispness. Dip nut halves into batter and allow most of the batter to run off, leaing a very thing, but complete coating. Drop the nuts into the heated oil and fry till they brown on one side. Turn nuts in hot oil and fry until brown on the other side. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons of the oil and heat the oil to 400*. Fry the pepper and oinon for 10 seconds, add the sweet and sour sauce and cook for 50 sencond. Add the tomato and pineapple and cook for another 5 seconds. Add batter fried nuts and turn the heat. Stir the sauce to cover all the nuts and serve immeditely with steamed rice. Serves 2 .ricenbeanies <ricenbeanies wrote: Could you post some recipes? I love Chinese but don't like tofu much. Guest guest
I was lucky to get this book for free from a freecycler. I've tried the 'Winter Sqash with Sage Leaves' and a carrot soup (I can't remember the titles. The soups were delicious. I have so many cookbooks, so many recipes to try, that I haven't fully gone through this book. However, the format is easy to read, and there are tons of delicious sounding recipes (with familiar and easy to work with ingredients). Guest guest
I have the Greens cookbook and Savoury way. I love both and really like her cooking style, lots of fresh herbs, she uses ingredients that are in season, and pretty imaginative food combinations. However, I do not buy cookbooks anymore, why bother? if I have a plethora of whatever ingredients end on my lap (garden or his job) I just google recipe for " whatever I have " and out come heaps of free recipes, some from Deborah Madison's cookbooks....I have cooked long enough that I know what to discard (do not ever give me a recipe using garlic salt, you will lose all credibility with me, I do not even use the stuff for backpacking! yes I backpack with fresh garlic....) Maybe this is not nice to cookbook authors? but I keep the laptop on the kitchen and this is what works for me (incuding the recipe files from this groups). Call me addicted to the internet... I went to Borders today and looked all through the Veg.cookbooks there. Seems that most of the Vegetarian Cookbooks have very few photos of the dish. Are there any good Veg. Cookbooks that have photos for each recipe? I am also interested in the recipes having the nutriant counts i.e. the carbs etc. Thank you for your opinions. Guest guest
The Gluten Free Vegan is one of my favorite cookbooks too! My family and friends love the recipes and many are not living a gluten free or vegan lifestyle. Garden of Vegan is also wonderful and many of the recipes are actually gluten free. If they involve flour i usually substitute Quinoa or almond flour and they turn out beautifully (or shall I say deliciously). Yours in success, Lisa Lisa G. Guest guest
I actually don't care for the Gluten Free Vegan, or any cookbook for that matter! I may get an idea or two from each book and then experiment with it and make it my own. I think the internet is the best resource for recipes because you don't have to commit to buying anything and you don't have to deal with the hassle of the library and remembering to take the books back. Just do a quick google search. A lot of times I just type in " gluten free vegan recipes " and see what comes up! Then you can print out ones you like and keep in a binder or save them on your computer. I like to print out so I can take notes while I'm making stuff and eating it. Then the next time I make it I have my notes so I can experiment with more or less of something or switch something out for something else and continue to jot down notes. Once I am happy with a recipe I write down my tweeked version in a notebook I got specifically for recipes. So I am basically building my own cookbook! I take pictures of my food too! And if there is a complicated or possibly confusing step then I take some step by step photos so when I'm satisfied with all the recipes I have I can put together a book with photos and upload it all to one of those self publishing sites and poof...print on demand cookbooks! You don't even have to sale your book, you can just order a copy or two for yourself. Hope this gives you some ideas! Guest guest
I've had experience with one of the self-publishing book companies (my brother's autobiography) and it can get really expensive. Also, most of them only print in 300 dpi, and if you have pictures, they are not so good. Or, perhaps you are talking about a different kind of publishing company than I am familiar with. I know there are some that do cookbook publishing for churches and other organizations, but I think they are also expensive. I looked into that once, and they have their own format and will not use anything else. I type all my recipes and put them in 3-ring binders. I have about ten of them. It's MUCH cheaper that way. Printing from the computer wastes a lot of paper and also usually splits recipes over 2 or 3 pages that I can type onto one page. sk , Jae Jones <recyclednew wrote: > > with all the recipes I have I can put together a book with photos and upload > it all to one of those self publishing sites and poof...print on demand > cookbooks!
