I'm new to this group, and really glad there IS one like this!

Can anyone suggest a good vegan/gluten-free cookbook? I've found a slim one, by

Susan O'Brien, and a baking book by Jennifer Katzinger; but overall, I still

really need recipes. I'm tired of rotating the same 8 dinner recipes!

Be sure to check out our group files. Many of us use the recipes there to

help us meet our daily recipe needs. We have an extensive collection

available for group members.

go to  glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com for Karina's kitchen blog. She used to be

a GF vegan and she still has quite a few recipes on her blog that are very good.

She is funny and down to earth and you will like her (even though she is no

longer vegan.......). She has a wealth of information on her blog about

substituting vegan ingredients and gluten free flours / gluten free tips so that

you can then use that info to create your own favorites.

Another good one is www.fatfreevegan.com/glutenfree

vegetarian.about.com and wholefoods.com are also good sources

Many of the gluten free cookbooks have recipes that are vegan or can easily be

adapted to be vegan.

Many of the vegan cookbooks also have gluten free recipes or make mention of

changes that can make them GF by substituting flours.

I personally like Supermarket Vegan, The Vegan Table and Vegan Yum Yum cookbooks

for many simple recipes.

THANK YOU for your detailed response!  I will check out the books / sites

you've suggested.  I'm in this for my health, and it's serious business!  I've

always been a good cook; but this challenge is a new, tough one.

I have access to some recipes, but have been surprised at how many call for

wheat/barley/rye ingredients.  And some things are hard to find where I live -

like tempeh, for example.  (I've made a few calls in town, and it's finally

getting ordered.)  Also, many are not low in fat - (where did the latest

fascination with coconut milk and butter come from?!?).

Anyway . . . it's good to know I'm not the only one on this unusual dietary

journey :-).

FYI, unlike saturated animal fats, coconut is a very healthy fat. And

slimming, too. Back in the 1940s, farmers decided to fatten their cows with

coconut oil. It wasn't long before they noticed the cows were slimming down

and getting friskier. The farmers quickly put an end to that.

For more info on the health benefits of virgin coconut oil, go to

www.pubmed.gov (The National Institutes of Health) to read studies showing

the cholesterol-lowering and other beneficial effects.

Of course don't forget the vegan and gluten free site itself with a vast array

of recipes.

Each blog or web site usually has links, that they like, to other

sites so depending on the amount of time you have every day - there are

unlimited recipes and information out there

I forgot some other blogs that are very good.

iamglutenfree.blogspot.com  where she is " 75% vegan as well as gluten free "

glutenfreesoyfreevegan.blogspot.com

glutenfreeveganfam.blogspot.com

www.glutenfreehippie.com

iheartfood.net

www.elanaspantry.com

You are not alone --- Vegenaise has just come up with a yellow label reduced fat

version that is very good - if you use such items. If I mix it half again with

mustard it makes a great steamed or roasted veggie topping.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but we just bought " The Gluten-Free Vegetarian

Kitchen " by Donna Klein. We haven't had the chance to try new recipes yet, but

I have several marked, including a Mediterranean salad, pizzas, quesadillas, a

Cheese and Cherry Tomato Pie, all kinds of casseroles, stuffed peppers and

stuffed tomatoes. Each recipe is labeled at the beginning whether it's vegan,

ovo-lacto, egg-free, etc., as well as nutritional info on each.
