Guest guest
Because, Belinda, a healthy woman's body fat % is in the low teens. In contrast, these female athletes' tend to have a body fat % well below 10. You are focused on the symptom, the bleeding. I am suggesting that you begin to distinguish different causes that happen to produce, on the surface, a symptom that SEEMS " the same " . The dynamics involved are altogether different. I've shared other examples in this group, such as white blood cell count, where the very healthy and the very sick display certain similar symptoms, on the surface. But in the case of these so called, healthy women that have cessation of bleeding during menstrual cycles (in particularly the 80-10-10ers or something similar) how do you know that they too are experiancing the cessation of bleeding during menstrual cycles is due to low body fat or some other reason that is not healthy. Guest guest
Cessation of menstrual periods in athletes tends to stop at or below 18%. I have never heard of it being healthy- at all- for a woman to have a body fat percentage below 16. I studied up on a lot of elite rowers in the world, and the body fat percentages for the most elite were still very close to 18. I'd like to see where you've heard a woman can have a body fat percentage below 10. Men who engage in elite weightlifting will often have a body fat percentage between 7 and 10. --- Elchanan <Elchanan wrote: > Because, Belinda, a healthy woman's body fat % is in > the low teens. Guest guest
Hi Terry, Most of the mainstream recommendations are so high as to be absurd. If one were actually to follow the recommendations of the Surgeon General, the American Diabetes Assn, etc. one would end up with the health that most Americans presently experience, give or take. And most of the ranges are so wide as to be meaningless, anyway. In men 3-5% is ideal, up to about 9-10 % is still reasonably healthy. In women, 13-15%. Below that, hormonal troubles may begin. Above that, you burden every part of you. Guest guest
Of course I focus on symptoms. Symptoms is all we have to go on to determne if our body is having problems or not. It seems to me that the 8-1-1ers seem to believe that as long as they are sticking to this diet then nothing can possibley be going wrong in their body. No matter what sign or symptom that they have, it's ok because they are eating the way they believe they should. For instance, if an 8-1-1er has a cold with no cold symptoms (do you really have a cold if you don't have symptoms?) they are considered so healthy that they don't show signs of it. But if a SAD person has a cold with no symptoms, they are to sick to have symptoms. If an athelete on a healthy variation of a SAD diet looses symptoms of her period(bleeding), she is not healthy. But if a 8-1-1er looses symptoms of her period she is in optiminal health. After all she must be. She is eating the perfect diet. If the 8-1-1ers ignore all symptoms or disregard symptoms or don't have symptoms, they are still healthy? There are tons of diseases out there that have no symptoms, until the disease is in a very late stage. And there are some diseases that never have symptoms.(some STD's come to mind) And I am STILL trying to grasp the notion that mentrual bleeding is a sign of toxicity. The uterus walls thicken with blood and tissue to get ready for a baby. When that doesn't, happen, the body sheds all of that because it isn't needed. What is so toxic about that? Other than maybe the extra blood and tissue would become toxic if it was not shedded. Belinda > Because, Belinda, a healthy woman's body fat % is in the low teens.
