Guest guest
I am just bginning this Raw Food way of life. I watched 30 Days Raw yesterday and it was rather convincing to me. I have been an organic food person for a long time but have never followed a Raw Diet. I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing and I am hoping that I will have the self discipline to stick to it. So here are some of my questions..... Are there any books or websites that you would recommend to a new Raw Foodist for recipes and ideas? Would Raw Dairy (milk/cheese) be considered ok on a raw diet? I have been drinking raw milk for about a year now and am wondering if that would still be ok? What is a good % to start out with in going Raw? Like 70% Raw????? What would the other 30% consist of? I want to start with a 3 day Juice Fast but I don't have a Juicer yet. Can anyone recommend how I can do a juice fast without a juicer? Thanks so much for all your help in this journey. Roberta
Guest guest
I started with the Garden Diet 4 years ago to transition me into eating raw. I have not touched milk in all this time. I find no need for it. Milk is designed for a baby bovine ... not humans. Juice fast? Hmm ... didn't do that either. I felt it better to just go with the water. Others here have more experience or have done more research. I don't do a lot of research and just do what feels right to me. Guest guest
Dear Roberta, There are many good sites to visit. I have many of them listed on http://www.justeatraw.com. On this site you can learn hoe to gradually ease into raw foods, with the goal being 100% raw vegan. It is safe if done correctly, and a variety of foods are consumed daily, especially greens in the form of smoothies. Recipes for smoothies are on the website as well. My life completely changed for the better back when I did the same thing. You can read about some of the amazing changes that I experienced. Raw foods changed every aspect of my life and it will never be the sam again. It did the same for others also. Look at the before and after pictures on this website. Iwill talk with you again. Sincerely, Philip http://www.justeatraw.com rawfood , " Roberta " <rradunderhill wrote: > > > > > I am just bginning this Raw Food way of life. Guest guest
I also have just started and I am greatly enjoying the following two books which I checked out from my library. I have also been reading the posts on this board and several others, but honestly the books help the most right now- the lists seem to be a lot of discussion of the various methods (which just confuses me right now) and other very interesting tidbits, but the books give some solid, basic beginner info. I also checked out Carol Alt's book which I don't like at all, and The Complete Book of Raw Foods, which I am hoping to dive into soon. These are the 2 I LOVE - eat smart, eat raw by Kate Wood Raw Food Real World by M Kenney & S Melngailis Right now, I shoot for 4 small " meals " a day- 2 raw, and 1 that is mix of raw and pretty much whatever we have left in the cupboards or that I can order at a restaurant that seems to be the best of the worst and 1 juice (usually kale, collard, carrot, broccoli & apple or a fruit smoothie, I just had a delicious one for breakfast- I juiced an orange and blended it with ice, 1/3 of a cantaloupe and 1/2 a mango and it was divine!) I have just started re-stocking my kitchen with the raw staples, like nutritional yeast, nori, raw nuts, seeds, agave nectar, etc. so I can try out some of the tempting recipes in these books. I tried assigning myself a percentage to stick to, but it made it harder for me to figure out and seemed to stress the whole process, plus it felt like too abrupt of a change. Pre-pregnancy I also drank raw milk, which I enjoyed, but now I am very excited to be enjoying nut milks. I guess I figure, why take the chance with milk? Also I bet the cows don't really enjoying being forced to lactate for so long. (I can especially relate since I will be again nursing with this child!) My biggest issue is that I can't shut up about all the things I am learning and people are " worried about my pregnancy " - how ironic is that, I am eating better than I ever have, I have only gained 1 pound (after losing 15 in the first 12 weeks due to nausea) and people are worried? With my first I'd gained 10 pounds at this point, had high blood pressure, edema, and ate lots of pure crap- but no one worried! Happy Monday! We are not entirely sure when we will be starting our family, but I definitely want to do it the right way when it is time! Guest guest
Welcome! There are many approaches to raw that work, but I would urge you to reconsider the use of raw milk in your diet for optimum health. Just about every book and then every institute for sure that is centered around living foods practices a vegan diet for optimal health. You can find out how to juice without a juicer easily enough: use a nut mylk/seed mylk bag, like a " cheese-cloth " ! Guest guest
Hi Roberta, Welcome to the group! I'd suggest cutting all dairy out of your diet for better results. Here's a good place to start reading about the dangers of milk, all milk. www.notmilk.com May I suggest eating all raw fruits (sweet-based, organic or better)in the morning and for lunch while you learn more about what raw has to offer? If you're ready, willing and able to eat all raw all day, even better. I recommend skipping the juice diet and eating whole fruits and leafy greens. Juice is processed food. There are many camps in the raw food world, as you'll soon learn. You'll find plenty of conflicting information, just as one does in the SAD world. However, there are undeniable principles that lay a foundation for certainty in the process. You've begun a journey that you hold the reigns to, and it will undoubtedly open your eyes to a whole new world that awaits you. Happy reading! Guest guest
Hi Roberta, There are MANY versions of a raw vegan diet. Many are attempts to recreate a Standard diet with raw foods. To me that seems to defeat the purpose of making choices to be as healthy as possible. Why continuously put yourself in the mindset and taste-set of the foods you're trying to leave behind? So then, what to eat? You may want to read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell as well as 80-10-10 by Doug Graham. They will give you a good scientific basis to think about how you put your diet together. Another book that is good for a good basic understanding is Brian Clement's Living Foods for Optimum Health. These are the only books and diet/health programs I know of that aren't primarily based on replicating standard food looks, tastes and textures. And... these programs produce a vibrant state of health and give the body what it needs to heal from acute and chronic conditions. A choice to create health rather than follow the herd in the grocery store means doing things differently. Learning to think differently, taste differently, feel differently. It's a long journey to extract oneself from the prevailing false beliefs about diet, food and health. Those false beliefs that need to be exorcised are ours. We have taken them in and they have become us. How we think, feel, taste, make judgements, etc. Be gentle with yourself. The biggest surprise for many people is that as they go raw, they discover emotions that were being hidden by their diet - medicated by their diet. These emotions need to be felt and processed or they will continue to sabotage you. Again... Be Gentle With Yourself. You are embarking on a journey that if followed with great heart and curiosity, will bring you gifts on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, spiritual. And stay connected with others on the same journey. On and offline. The overwhelming majority of raw foodists have no problem with making tuna salad out of whole sheet dulse and sprouted almonds and some seasonings, and it is simply not true that such a meal " defeats the purpose of being raw " . For most, it is the only reason they are able to BE raw.... Be a better Heartthrob. Get better relationship answers from someone who knows. Answers - Check it out.
