Guest guest
Hello every one. I thought I would introduce myself to the group. I am married now for 29 years, we have two grown children that are coming back home to roost. We had two dogs but had to put Gracie to sleep this last October, and our other dog Mocha is fighting insulinoma cancer. Mocha has had one tumor removed and half her pancreas late this last March and last month shows signs that the cancer is back. It has been hard. I have been trying to find support for eating a better healthier lifestyle. Hopefully one that my family will like also. Even if they still want to eat meat, I feel that eating as much raw as possible will still be benificial. I am diabetic and concerned about getting the right amounts of everything from raw food. I know it can be done but I dont understand how to choose the right cominations to get whole proteins or where to find this information. I am not very good at searching things online at times and this is one I am having a problem with. I live in small town so to just pop into a library is kind of hard. But if I have enough information my little library will get an out of town loan on books. Last week I had some of my first raw partial meals. I want recipes that the ingredients I know what and where to find them. So I want really simple ingredients. It took me forever to find tahini because I had no clue that it was in with the peanut butter section. As I become more raw eating, comfortable and familiar with it then I want to expand on some of the more exotic ingredients. Can anyone tell me where or how to look up whole protein combinations? In books, online, whatever or where ever. I enjoy gardening, quilting, reading, learning, photography, photo album scrap booking. and oh so much more! Also OT does anyone have experience with the type of cancer Mocha has? What have you used to help keep it undercontrol? Thank you all. By the way I am having a hard time getting to some of my groups because of my time spent with Mocha and checking on her and such. Plus the trips I have to make to town which is an hour away. But I do try to read posts. And will try to respond as soon as I can. Sandy

Guest guest
I have gotten rid of bad type II diabetes, CAD that I was told needed immediate bypasses & kidney stents. Sugar & cholesterol were both near 500. Sugar now well maintained around 100 and cholesterol around 115, NO meds, no surgery. CAD gone, arteries clear and soft as verified on the same PET scanner that showed the problems. Diet = 80% raw, 20% cooked, all vegan, mostly organic. urning point was watching the DVD " the RAVE Diet " ravediet.com MD that showed me the way = Joel Fuhrman MD - read his book " Eat To Live " then made an appointment. drfuhrman.com Good luck, this way works. There may be other ways that work, but after much study I haven't found any others
Guest guest
Wow! That's a fantastic testimonial about lowering sugar! How much fruit do you eat? I have been to Dr. Joel Fuhrman's website. A lot of good common sense. However, I don't think he agrees with the 100% raw. He also advocates eating eggs I believe. I think there are a lot of variations on the raw diet but it is predominantly plant-based. I appreciate being part of this group. I used to be part of a raw foods list 6-7 years ago but I don't know what happened to it. Guest guest
That is impressive! That's what I want to do. How long did it take you to see the results? I'm not raw - yet. I was vegan for a year, then vegetarian - then just went nuts. When I went vegan - within 3 months I was off of all my medications. now I'm on even more meds. I'm not proud of the path I've traveled - but I believe that in the long run I'm going to be helping others so I will have a lot of experience that I can relate to people who are having problems making the changes. I honestly believe raw is the lifestyle I need to be, I'm just really struggling with my addiction. Going vegan last time, I did it over night - this time I'm trying gradual. I've started eating a raw breakfast. I am also reading everything I can get my hands on. I hope to achieve the results you speak of because I'm only 42 but I have a lot of health problems. Thank you for sharing your story! As much as I feel like, sometimes quite a bit, other times none. Usually 2 banannas and an apple a day, yesterday a cup or two of watermellon and a star fruit. > I have been to Dr. Joel Fuhrman's website. A lot of good common sense. > However, I don't think he agrees with the 100% raw. He also advocates > eating eggs I believe. I never heard him say eggs were good. I have heard him say some soup and steamed veg is good and that in fact there are some nutrients that become more available with cooking and some less. I have heard him, McDougall and others say that the enzyme theory is nonsense because although enzymes don't survive cooking, they don't survive swallowing either. I have yet to have anyone show me proof that enzymes in raw food get into your system and do anything different than if the food were cooked. Personally I eat a lot of raw becuase it tends to be less processed and I feel it has more fiber and gives my innards more exercise or something like that. Basically there is no reason I eat mostly raw that I can document or that anyone has been able to document to my satisfaction. I think there are a lot of variations on the raw > diet but it is predominantly plant-based. There is PLENTY of vegan junk food. I stick to 80/20 raw vs cooked plants and avoid processed foods and fats of ANY origin. Everyone has their own theory and I think most on this path are solidly in the 90% of what works and are just debating the last 10%. I'll settle for the positive changes I have achieved and not stress over being 100% raw, etc. > > I appreciate being part of this group. I was under the impression that the deal with enzymes in raw food is not that get into your system but that they help digest the food they are with, sparing your system from having to produce the enzymes itself. A quote from the article The Essentials of Enzyme Nutrition Therapy Part 1/3 " Food enzymes in raw food are vital for digesting that food, but their destruction during cooking is a key factor in today's rising levels of allergies and chronic degenerative diseases.
