Guest guest
> ...No doubt there will be reaction to this message > but I may never find out. > Peter ~*~*~*~ Peter, good for you for your tolerance for " transition " for folks new to raw. It IS a radical change--especially if you are really into cooking and following all those complicated, fussy recipes. Not me! John, Whenever I read the charts for proper food combining it looks so confusing. You can get dizzy trying to follow all those arrows! Food combining can be easy for the raw foodist. For proper digestion; to avoid gas, heartburn, indigestion; for proper absorption of nutrients AND to lose excess weight, I know I need to follow a few simple rules to combine my foods properly. I eat fruit alone (usually--apples are the big exception to this rule, but I juice apples along with my veges and I've had no problems). I drink water in between meals so I don't dilute digestive juices. I eat nuts and seeds alone or with vegetables, but I don't eat nuts and seeds with avocado. Many of the raw food recipe books are full of recipes that are in fact poor food combining. I think some of the fancy raw food recipes look like a bunch of fuss. I like to keep it simple. I just go to my health food grocery store and look and see what fresh living fruit or vege looks good and ripe and delicious and that's what I eat. I eat either a fruit meal or a vege meal (with a few exceptions) and eat till hunger is satisfied. Easy! Many of the veges we put in our green leafy salads actually ARE fruits, such as a bell peppers and tomatos. I decided not to let it bother me and just enjoy my salad. Once I visited with a radiantly healthy raw foodist at a Standard American Diet (SAD) potluck and she ate her salad right along with a delectable, juicy pear and some red grapes. She ate with relish. When I asked, " What about proper food combining? I thought you are not supposed to mix fruits and vegetables because they use different digestive juices? " She laughed and said she ate whatever fruits and vegetables she felt like eating and she felt just terrific. Once I got the junk food and the addictive substances (salt, sugar, caffeine) out of my system through detoxing I knew I could follow my taste buds and just listen to my body about what raw foods to eat and how much to eat. If I have any problems with indigestion, I look at what I've been eating, or what improper food combining I've done, so I can make whatever changes necessary. For example, I now save the sweet treats, such as the dehydrated fruit and nut concoctions, for a special celebration food like Christmas or a birthday. They are not proper food combining! Everyone is different. We all make our own choices and decisions about changes. When someone is new to the raw food lifestyle, he is in " transition " from old habits to the new and living way. It isn't a good time to hit him with a discussion of stomach acids and the digestive system that can hardly be understood by a biochemist. It is a radical change, however, just like learning to swim or ride a bike, the raw food lifestyle becomes so easy and natural that after a year or two you feel as if you were born knowing all about it. --Jenny of NW WA ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! " She laughed and said she ate whatever fruits and vegetables she felt like eating and she felt just terrific. " That is right. By loading you stomach up with a different foods you ask the stomach to turn on a lot of chemicals to deal with the different foods. The upshot is a lot of chemistry goes on which would not otherwise happen. Chemistry leads typically to gas or put more eloquently flatulence. I think mixing up the fruit with the veg may be no harm to you friend but it is not much fun for the other people in the lift. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, Micele! There really isn't a lot to worry about with proper food combining, except if you're eating cooked food. I however do practice proper RAW food combining, because lately I've been researching the different food-and-body-produced enzymes and their effects on digestion. I'm including links to some info that I found to be the easiest to understand. For now, if you're just starting out with proper food combining and you only want to be concerned with one aspect at a time, I would first suggest that you eat fruits only on an empty stomach, like for breakfast, and wait at least 30 minutes before eating any other kind of food. That's because fruit doesn't digest in the stomach, it goes almost immediately into the intestines for assimilation. So if you eat fruit after or with say, starches or proteins, it doesn't get to the intestines in good time and instead starts to oxidate (rot) and ferment in your stomach. Another important fruit tip is to eat melons by themselves and not with any other fruit or food. Other fruits can be combined depending on which category they fall into: acid (mostly citruses), sub-acid, or sweet. http://www.internethealthlibrary.com/DietandLifestyle/food-combining-simplified-\ chart-c.htm http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/food-combining.htm http://www.hps-online.com/food/index.htm -Tiffany Lohr hesavedmebygrace <hesavedmebygrace wrote: So how much attention do I really need to focus on proper food combining? Guest guest
hi. Is it ok to eat fruit and veggies at the same time? I note that many make green drinks with both and everywhere I look online at sites of rawfooders, they do also. I thought it was not ideal to eat them both together. What is best? tks
Guest guest
The theory isn't that melons slow digestion, but rather that they are adversely affected *by* slower digestion caused by vegetables or other more involved foods should they accompany the meal. Here's an interesting chart: http://www.internethealthlibrary.com/DietandLifestyle/food-combining-detailed-ch\ art-b.htm The
