Guest guest
Has anyone of you or do you know of anyone that has had a reaction to eating too much fruit? Like breaking out into a very itchy rash? I have a serious rash on my back. The doctor said if it were somewhere else on my body he would guess poison ivy. So that tells you what it looks like (and feels like). The doctor thinks I have come into contact with something. He thinks probably in the tanning bed (possibly tanning oils/lotions left behind by previous tanner or maybe reaction from chemicals from the cleaner that the tanning bed is cleaned with). Even though I have not been in a tanning bed in a couple of months, I have been at the lake for the past several Saturdays. The sun and temps have been very hot and dry (has not rained to amount to anything since may) here in the past several weeks (over 100) and probably has made the rash worse. Anyway, my husband insist it is from all the fruit I have been eating. Seems like if it were from something I am eating, the rash would be everywhere and not just on my back. Sooooo, what do ya'll think? Belinda
Guest guest
Hi Belinda, I am not sure if this will help you, but I often break out in many pimples and get a rash and become itchy in most hairy places when I eat many fruits or vegetables containing salicylates. It seems to be an intolerance, rather than an allergic reaction, and I have tested this many times over the past few years. Guest guest
Hi Belinda, If your system were going to react to any food, in all likelihood that reaction would have occurred the first time you ate that food, at least in any quantity. That having been said, when people dramatically improve their diet. it's quite common for them to experience rashes and many other symptoms as their bodies clean house. However, I am inclined toward the doctor's explanation. If anything, eating better, living more healthfully, increases your vitality ... your capacity to respond. And it sounds as if you are indeed responding. The localized pattern, and the specific location, both seem to support this hypothesis. Is there some reason you disbelieve this explanation, something you observed or just sense? Guest guest
Some of us do have sensitivities to certain fruit and vegetables. One of the most common sensitivities is to citrus and citrus-y fruit, such as lemons, oranges, and tomatoes. These fruit/vegetables can cause all sorts of unpleasant reactions, from itching to migraines (in those prone to migraines) If you are eating non-organic (no judgment, just advising you), you should wash carefully and peel the fruit or vegetable. Who knows what chemicals might be on the skin of the fruit or vegetables. Even organic fruit and vegetables can cause reactions... Always wash very carefully. If you can, soak the vegetables in a vegetable cleaner, or clorox (if you don't like this idea, don't do it, but clorox is one of the best removers of " stuff " from the skins of vegetables and fruit. Just soak for 10 mins. then rinse well to remove any traces of the clorox. I am, myself, recovering from an itch fest brought on by eating too many tomatoes (I love them, but I am sensitive them). I have received a lot of tomatoes from my CSA, and I had been drinking tomato juice made from @3 tomatoes plus other vegetables at least twice a day, and eating whole tomatoes AND having tomato sauce on my dinner food. I finally realized what the source of my agony was and stopped the juice. I hope this helps Margaret rawfood , " Belinda " <MistyBlueTN wrote: > > Has anyone of you or do you know of anyone that has had a reaction to > eating too much fruit? Guest guest
Hi, Just catching up after a busy weekend. I don't really believe it is too much fruit that I am eating, but wondered about it because I can remember in times past (when I was a kid) that I would occasionally break out around my mouth when I ate a lot of strawberries (during strawberry season) or tomatoes (when they were in season. By alot, I mean, strawberries on my cereal, strawberry jelly with my PBJ sandwiches, strawberries and whip cream at night before bed, and just a handful of strawberries through out the day. After a few days of this, my face would sometimes break out in a bit of a rash. Not itchy, just very small red pimples. I have not had that happen to me in many years. The fruits I have been eating every day for some time now, are peaches, red grapes, bananas, mangos, blueberries and strawberries. I am especially eating a lot of peaches right now, because they are so GOOD right now, and I know they are not going to last much longer. Anyway, I am staying out of the sun and tanning bed (probably won't ever get back in a tanning bed, unless it is the stand up kind where I won't be touching anything) and trying to avoid the heat. Not easy, since it is so hot here. But here I am, Tues. morning and still itching. Just to make my hubby happy I am going to lay off of the fruit(as in cut back) for a few days, and replace with veggies. Guest guest
It might help. What kind of fruits and veggies contain salicylates? I have been eating a lot of peaches lately. They are simply sweet, juicy, and yummy right now. Guest guest
You know, I am. Since giving up dairy, I switched to Almond milk. Then decided to try organic soy milk. That is what I have been putting in my Teccinno (coffe substitute) drink. I like the soy milk better than the almond milk. Guest guest
So you think maybe it could be the soy milk? I will stop putting it in my morning drink and we will see what happens. Guest guest
Belinda, Often it's a bit challenging to pinpoint the proximate cause of skin outbreaks such as yours. The tanning salon seems far and away the most likely source, but there is no way, at this point, to go back and analyze any substances or the like. In general, the more cleanly you live, the more cleaning your system can and will do. If you eliminate all processed products ... not only foods, but cosmetics, sprays, soaps, shampoos, etc. ... for a bit, it will surely help. Soy products are all heavily processed (excepting soy sprouts, of course).
