Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your feedback on 'Earthlings'. I finally got around to watching it on Saturday. Wow! It's quite a film. The images around the Food section were absolutely horrifying. After Food, it was a little easier to watch. What were my thoughts? Firstly, I always have issues around films or books regarding vegan diets and animal cruelty. I love the work that Dr. Neil Barnard and PCRM are doing, but get frustrated that he doesn't address any issue other than diet and health. If people make the switch to a vegan diet to lose weight or reverse diabtes, they generally go back to meat because there isn't a deep enough connection - like animal cruelty, environmental impact, spirituality, social justice and like. Without incorporating the whole picture, people generally don't stick with it. That being said, I had a few issues with the film. You had to go through the extras (on page two) to get Solutions. This is a big mistake. I get that it's clear that you don't want to partake of any of the industries covered in the film, but if you are a meat eater or leather wearer, you need some suggestions. How difficult would it have been to mention PETA or PCRM for vegetarian starter kits, for example. After all of my complaints, I realized that the key to the film is animal cruelty. Whenever I get asked why I am a vegan, I always have to use animal cruelty last. People just don't care about animals. I have had some success when it comes to the environment or social justice, but not when it comes to animal suffering. This film can go a large way towards making animal cruelty a real issue in people's (and the culture's minds). It is important to get this movie out to the general public. I will be talking to Shaun Monson, the director of the film this week. My wife and I started a public relations agency focused on animal welfare, spirituality, health and wellness, green technologies, vegan foods, et al. So, I am hoping to help get the film some press. You may be interested in one of our clients. 'Raw for 30 Days'. It's a feature length documentary that follows six Americans with diabetes. They are put on a 100% raw, vegan diet for 30 days. The film will not be completed til Spring '08. Check out the trailer if you get a moment - www.rawfor30days.com Another movie that might be of interest is 'Behind the Mask'. It's a feautre length documentary about The Animal Liberation Front and other animal activists. Shanon Keith, the filmmaker is an animal rights attorney in Los Angeles. We will be handling the PR for the film. Check out the preview on her site - http://www.uncagedfilms.com/ Best, Gary

I agree with you about everything except that mentioning PETA in Earthlings would be good - LOL. I'd mention Vegan Outreach or something less apalling to most people. I'm into animal rights and I cannot stand PETA, overall, for their exploitation of women to somehow address the exploitation of animals as being wrong, etc. But that is neither here nor there. I wanted to say that I have had the trailer for Raw For 30 Days on my myspace page for months and months, and I WOULD LOVE to know when it's available. Plus, I LOVE Behind The Mask! One of my best friends who is a lawyer and now the executive director of Sea Shepherd (with Captain Paul Watson!) sent it to me for my birthday a year ago. It's amazing. I agree with you that no matter how much people " say " they are animal lovers, people do not care AT ALL about animals when it comes down to it. It's extremely disheartening, and where my heart is really at. But I basically wanted to thank you for posting, again, and to say thank you for all the hard work you are clearly doing in so many great arenas. Wonderful and uplifting to see! Guest guest
Hi Erica, Agreed that PETA has issues. However, they have accomplished some very important changes on behalf of animals. Quite a few large corporations are no longer supporting animal testing as a result of their work. Heck, PETA has twenty websites without their name mentioned in the URLs that they could have mentioned. Asking SAD eaters to move to a vegetarian diet is beyond comprehension to most. I usually get quizzed for fifteen minutes about what I can and cannot eat, what constitutes a meal, etc. They need to see food and meals in a new way. This is not easy without help. That's all I was advocating. 'Raw for 30 Days' probably won't be released until the Summer of '08, once they have a distributor. I am hoping to see the next rough cut in a week or so. They are compiling a compendium DVD to be used as a " how to " reverse diabetes and other chronic diseases. I believe they have over 30 interviews with medical doctors, raw food chef preps, raw food leaders and celebrities. They are hoping to complete it mid-November. I'll let you know when it is completed. I really loved your website. Thanks for all of the videos on your Resource page. I have decided to be at peace supporting individual acts of PETA (I would never challenge that they have made some great strides, etc0, but just not endorsing them as a whole. I love my site, too, and that is one of my favorite features on it. :- ) Thanks re: the movie - looking fwd to it! Erica
