Stevia (not) Toxic?

Janet, what you said gives me hope.

I am such a sweet tooth. I have actually noticed though that I am not

craving sweets as much anymore perhaps because of all the fruit I eat

in the morning?

I must confess that I made non raw vegan wheat free, dairy free almost

sugar free chocolate chip cookies last night that my husband LOVED. He

has had a hard time with most of the vegan stuff but not these.

Unfortunately I woke up feeling sick. My mind felt cloudy, my throat

soar and the start of a fever blister! Must have been the chocolate

and small amount of sugar. I just don't think I can tolerate chocolate

and sugar anymore so that is what I get!

Did you use raw chocolate or milk chocolate in your recipe? Don't use

bar chocolate because insects can get into the processing of the

chocolate, get the raw nibs and grind them yourself.

OR! If chocolate really makes your stomach upset, try carob instead

of chocolate for flavoring. Really, in my head I keep thinking that

what you had was an allergic reaction because its exactly how I react

when I have trace amounts of onions. I'd love to see the recipe's

ingredients list.

As someone with an allergy to onions I've seen myself have all sorts

of reactions during baking things. But I read online that most people

who think they're allergic to chocolate actually are allergic to

something else. So the point of the matter would be to go over the

list of ingredients and try a little of each, raw and cooked, one day

at a time, to see how you react.

And even if you don't use chocolate, there are many good flavorful

nuts and the like you can use instead. Pureed almonds (the non-us

pasturized kind) can be great in things I bet, and the carob I

mentioned too.

Good luck and I hope you can fullfill your sweet tooth obligations

without compromising your raw diet. ;) I know I'm going to have this

struggle too when I go from vegetarian to raw. Its gonna be a toughy!

Thanks Lee!

Good luck as well as you go forward from vegetarian to raw.

You said " Don't use bar chocolate because insects can get into the

processing of the chocolate, get the raw nibs and grind them yourself. "

That will keep me away from the stuff. I should try the nibs. I saw

them recently at a local health food store.

Perhaps it was not the chocolate. Could it have been the sugar in the

chip? I don't think you can have an allergy to sugar though.

You said " I'd love to see the recipe's ingredients list. "

Here is the recipe I made up for the cookies:

Organic Brown rice Flour, Garbanzo bean flour, Oat flour, Almond

Flour,Semi Sweet Chocolate chips from Trader Joe's (sugar is first

ingredient), Organic Earth Balance Spread, Organic Molasses, Honey

(guess it is not truly " Vegan " with the Honey, right?) Unsweetened

Organic Vanilla Soymilk, a little baking soda and salt. I think that

is it but maybe I am leaving something out. Don't know why they made

me sick but they did =(

Hi Kat,

If it was an allergic reaction, then the culprit may well

have been the soy milk, see;

Neal,

I guess a lot of people have problems with soy.

The other day was the first time I had soy milk in about a month. I

previously used it all the time in my tea- now I drink it plain. Maybe

my body does not like it anymore and apparently it is not healthy. I

should probably stay away from the stuff...

Thanks!

Kat
