Guest guest
Even though I have been doing the 80/10/10 100% for a month, I am still feeling horrible, maddening itching when I exercise. My skin turns red wherever there is any kind of jarring. Does anyone else experience this? I want to exercise by running and riding bikes, but I can't because of this. It feels like the itching I experienced from a histamine shot some years ago when they were testing for allergies. That kind of intense itching on my thighs, sometimes on my chest and abdomen...depends on where the jarring is occurring. Thanks for any insights, Beth
Guest guest
Hello Beth, The 80/10/10 diet is very good, but not for everybody 100%. That is my opinion! It seems you are lacking of Vitamins B1 and B2 which includes Niacin and Vitamin H (Biotin). B1 and B2 about 1.4 to 1.8 mg is needed daily, Niacin about 10-15 mg Vitamin H about 0.1 - 0.3 mg. And of course probably salt is missing! Not so much fruits, a lot more greens and other vegetables! Just find out which vegetables have the Vitamins above and how much to have to include to fullfil the daily demand of your body, and everything should become fine. Nutritional yeast for example has lots of B Vitamins to give you a little push with about 2 tblsp three times a day in a smoothie or simply in water and see how you feel. A little dash of Himalayen salt or sea salt one time a day in a glass of water works just fine. That's what I would do. I am not a doctor and I am not supposed to tell you what to do. These are just my nutritional experiences with other people. You can try it and see how you feel. At least you have nothing to lose, there are no harmful side effects! Guest guest
Hi Beth, You're not alone. During my transition towards raw food, I too had a maddening itching phase. It lasted about 2 months, and then went away. I also had had alergy tests, about 10 years ago - maybe that's the connection (tracing phenomenon?). I too am curious if anyone else experienced itching during their transitions to raw. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I don't have any insights, but I have experienced something like this. I get what appears to be a histamine response when I run in cooler weather in shorts. Fortunately I am able to wear sweats and the problem disappears. I knew someone in the past who had a situation such as yours. She would use an antihistamine before she exercised. Best wishes in finding a wholesome solution! Hi Beth, not sure what you mean by " jarring " , but the first thought I had when reading this was, what do you put on your skin? What do you wash with, what cosmetics, perfumes, deoderants, etc do you use? What do you wash your clothes with? My son and I both tend to have a more severe reaction to irritants when sweating or hot, the best way to avoid it is not to have contact with the irritants in the first place. Guest guest
HI Caron, The jarring is just the movement of my body-like my flabby thighs jostling when I run and then they turn red and I feel intense histamine-type itching. Anyway, I have stopped using all products on my hair. For the past 2 months, I have only washed with water. I only use coconut oil as lotion and I am also using a product that contains cocoa butter, shea butter, and almond oil for lotion and on my face. I also use Kiss My Face Olive Oil soap for my arm pits and face in the shower. I understood that it only had olive oil in it. I am trying very hard to eliminate variables to figure this out. I am wearing running shorts when I run and the itching is occurring where there is no clothing, so I don't think it is contact with fabric. Thanks so much for your input and help. Let me know if you have any other ideas~ Beth

Hi Beth, Have you ever taken niacin as a supplement and if so is the redness and itching like the flush that comes with taking niacin? > Anyway, I have stopped using all products on my hair. > For the past 2 months, I have only washed with water. If you've had them, do you get a similar thing in a sauna? > Beth neal.
Guest guest
Neal, No, I've never tried niacin. Should I give it a try? Beth

I only mentioned it because the flushed redness and itching that proceeds from taking niacin is the nearest in my experience to what you were describing. (however I used to really enjoy it, I'd go bright red in patches all over the body and have red eyes like Dracula! LOL. the whole body became warmer too and that included my poor cold arthritic joints that would feel so much more comfortable for a while afterwards). For close to thirty years I used to take lots of supplements, niacin being one of them, as I believed they were supposed to be good for me. Niacin was supposed to be particularly good for helping cleanse the (fatty) tissues of the body. Then nature found its way to 'speak' to me and proceeded to teach me harmony and balance and nothing is isolated. So I stopped all supplementing and started to focus more on diet. What you were saying about redness and itching didn't sound to me like allergy but cleaning out and that was the point I was trying to get across. IIUC human bodies perspire to regulate heat but also take the opportunity to eliminate toxins this way too. As someone else said on this list it took them a couple of months before their redness and itching subsided. After I don't know how many years of not doing so, you are now providing your body with the right stuff (raw), you just have to let it get on with it as best it can; sometimes we just have to go 'through it'. But you are not alone. neal.

Try it out and see if you have the same problem sweating it out in a sauna. Try it unclothed, and if you have the same response, then at least you'll know it's not the clothes causing it. I have a similar problem with mineral make-up. Bare minerals makes me itch when I wear it and start to sweat. I just stopped wearing it all summer in Atlanta, and never wear it working out because I got so irritated. Can't wear regular makeup either, so I looked not so good this summer without anything. I thought it might have been my sweat causing a reaction with one of the ingredients, although I'm not sure which one it would be. Guest guest
Nicole, I do have a Heavenly Heat sauna. I do not itch when I sit in the sauna and I wear a terry-cloth wrap. So, if I don't itch then, it must be the movement and jarring that are causing the histamines itch when I exercise. I just don't know why.I am continuing with the diet and I am going to start skin-brushing as well. Thanks, Beth
