> Hi Bob,

Thank you so much about reminding me about the Elchanan's shake

recipe. I must have missed that one!!

Also, thanks for the information about the coconut " meat! "

I know this is a silly question, but since I've never worked with

coconut before, I have NO IDEA of the best way to open it or to cut it.

ANy suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Lynne

ANy suggestions?

Hi Lynne,

I recently bought a baby coconut from the supermarket (so I assume it's

loaded with poisons, but anyway..) it had an instruction tag saying to heat

it in a 200 degree (celcius) oven for 10 mins to split it, but I noticed

that it split when I put it in the freezer. I have no idea how freezing

affects the quality of foods and/or vitamins etc.

I got the water out by piercing the " soft eye " - one of the 3 dots was very

soft, and could be cut out with a blunt knife or a fork. I've never met a

" real " coconut in the wild though, so no idea if this is normal, or a GM

coconut container that the supermarket gods came up with, like their crunchy

" ripe " bananas...

Good luck with it,

Caron

Hi Caron,

Thanks for your suggestions and your experience with coconuts.

I asked the produce man at the Wild Oats today, and he said I would have

to use a machete to open it. Then he said " Or you could just bang it on

the ground! " When I asked about the " liquid " or " milk, " he said that

you can't consume THAT milk, because it's an OLD coconut, and the milk

is BAD. He said to just throw it away. He also said to take a butter

knife and scrape off the " meat " of the coconut, shred it with a grater,

and then squeeze the juice out of it. Then I'll have my coconut milk

for my smoothie.

Does that make any sense?

Does anyone know if he is telling me accurate information?

Thanks!!

Lynne

That's ridiculous (horse poo!) Of course you can drink the milk.

It's wonderful stuff, even in an older coconut.

Good luck in trying to get juice from that meat. lol! You won't get

much.

That information is well, just terrible. I use the milk in the

coconut and the meat in my smoothies.

Both are full of electrolytes and great stuff. Makes for a creamy

wonderful smoothie.

Are you guys speaking of Milk from the Brown Coconuts or from the Young Thai

Coconuts?

Either way HORSE POO! the milk is great.... although if you are talking

about the Young Thai Coco's and the water is Pinkish and smells " soap like " then

this coconut has gone BAD and should not me consumed.

good luck,

a.
