Guest guest
For several months, I had been drinking green smoothies almost daily. I had stopped because it seems like it was needlessly increasing my hunger and cravings for horrible foods I had not had in years! My smoothies was always strong with just one serving of fruit or a hand full of berries. W/o the smoothies, I feel more in control of my hunger and cravings---not that I ever gave in to them, but at least I'm not feeling miserable. I recently got a juicer and started juicing the greens and noticed an improvement in how I feel overall. I know there are people who have low opinions about juicing, so I'm not seeking a right or wrong type answer. My question is, besides the fiber, what is really so great about green smoothies? I read so much positive information about it, but starting to feel they dont mix with my chemistry which can be discouraging. At the same time though, I do very well with green juice and salads. Is there something about it I dont know? Carla

It could be that you're not having enough fruit with your meal - blood sugar levels seem to trigger hunger/satiation. I found (a few years back, post baby), on the few occasions that I was really hungry, that I could eat until the cows come home, and then eat the cows, and still be ravenous, but if I had a teaspoon of honey, it stopped hunger in its tracks. A salad would never " fill me " , though if I ate enough I'd end up feeling full and bloated, but if I eat fruit before the salad, then it feels like a meal. It has to be -enough- fruit though - based on 2-3000 calories a day, each meal should be _at least_ 600 calories, which is around 6 bananas, for example. Then the salad, which is about 2 calories per ton of lettuce (yes, I am exaggerah). The other thing I was wondering, is how you're feeling the hunger? Is it pains/groaning in the belly? This can be other things going on (eg something not sitting right). Hunger can also be a mistaken message of thirst - maybe you're not getting enough water with your smoothie. There is something to be said for eating the foods, rather than blending them too. I feel much better after eating bananas than after drinking them.
