Guest guest
I am certainly not saying there is not a place for the more substantial measures the ear-nose-throat docs can provide. And Janet, I might be as skeptical as you had I not seen and experienced what I have in recent years as to how effective ear candles can be...I know my sister would agree; considering all the money she saved in not having to take her kids to the ENT doc once she started candling their ears. Tim ps, Herb Mart in the Dallas, TX area sells candles for $1.25 each or you can get them for pennies each if you make your own. Google: " how to make ear candles " pss, One final thought: I get such improved hearing from using them I don't really care what it is that ends up inside the candle. Its been several days now since I candled my ears and I am still getting accustomed to my improved level of hearing... >>>True confessions here... Years ago, I developed a ringing in my ears upon returning from cannery work in Alaska. Every time some one closed a door, I'd hear distortion crunching in my ear. After about a year of trying oils, drops, and even ear candles, I went to a ...shhhh...( whispers) a doctor ....SHHHHH! An ear, nose, throat doctor, that is. He got out a long tool I was better off not noticing and proceeded to pull out a chunk of resin too big and hard to EVER come out any other way (I may be wrong about that). It was a painful procedure, but WORTH IT. I think this is a situation where going to a doctor to get the ears checked out is useful. Prevention is better, but sometimes immediate relief (ok, a year isn't exactly immediate) is worth its weight in gold. The chunk that came out of my ear looked good for setting in a big ring like amber. It probably had a bug in it to boot! Any wax an ear candle can get out of the ear can be extracted through other means. They are expensive and completely unnecessary, imo. And, I'm not convinced they work in the slightest. Different candles will show different amounts of residue...candle wax residue. Janet <<<

It makes sense. Erica
Guest guest
I actually burned a package of ear candles without putting them in my ear at all. The residue was the same as when they were inserted in the ear. That was my experience. The residue was the same as when they were inserted in the ear. That was my experience. Janet<<< Janet, I wonder why it is that: -I have found that when I have been eating raw for a few months the amount of material that comes out of my ears during a " candling " session is considerably less than when I have been eating a more " sludgey " diet? -My sister & family eat the SAD and when her kids were little she had to run them to the ear (ENT) Dr. for fairly regular clean-outs. Once she started using ear candles on the kids the trips to the ear Dr. ended... -When I used to sometimes " candle " the ears of my neice and nephews the amount of " gunk " in the candles would vary from child to child. Also, I tend to have somewhat impaired hearing in my right ear and for some reason when I candle my ears the candle I use on my right ear always has more gunk in it afterwards. So, yes, some of what is in the candle after burning is from the candle itself but some of it is also, clearly, from the ear itself... And, as I mentioned previously, anymore, I find ear candling so enjoyable and beneficial I don't pay all that much attention to how much is coming out... Guest guest
Yes, I read all of the posts earlier. I suggest if you enjoy the practice, keep doing it. I've done fine without them on SAD and raw. Janet rawfood , Tim Campbell <jtcaell wrote: > > >>>I actually burned a package of ear candles without putting them in my > ear at all. Guest guest
Something about ear candles that I thought was interesting - I had taken my elderly mother to the walk-in clinic to get the wax out of her ears, and I thought what the heck, as long as I'm here I'll get mine done too. He looked in my ears and said it wasn't necessary - there was no wax to remove. So then in a couple weeks my girlfriends and I went to a health food store where they do the candling and we all decided to have it done. After mine was done there was pretty much the same amount of " wax " left over as was in the other girls' candles. So what would that stuff be? In my case, it wasn't ear wax, because I didn't have any to be removed. But I do have a question about ear wax - I know you can have too much which affects hearing (like with my mother) - but don't people have ear wax naturally in their ears? Does it serve any purpose to have a little in your ears? Does it really need to be removed if it doesn't affect your hearing? Guest guest
From an M.D., an explanation of ear wax and its purpose: http://www.doctorhoffman.com/wax.htm He even has a page on candling to which he links at the bottom. (His view is that it's dangerous bunk.) -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog - Carol rawfood Monday, November 05, 2007 6:28 AM [Raw Food] Re: Ear Candles Something about ear candles that I thought was interesting - I had taken my elderly mother to the walk-in clinic to get the wax out of her ears, and I thought what the heck, as long as I'm here I'll get mine done too.
