Guest guest
I recently started eating sprouts because they are really healthy, but I just don't like them. I have been blending them into green smoothies so I can't taste them and that has worked well. Does anyone have any ideas or recipes to disguise the taste? If I had more ideas on what to do with them, it would really make it easier. I do like sunflower sprouts but I haven't been able to get them from the sprout guy I go to and have not attempted to sprout them myself yet. Thanks, Susanne

Alfalfa? Other kinds? I like alfalfa, but I can taste them in my smoothie from a mile away and I don't like that. Sunflower are excellent, and easy to grow! Sprouts are so important, good for you! Guest guest
Erica, I have only had clover and sunflower. Can sprouts be juiced? I was thinking it would be a great way to disguise the taste. Guest guest
Dear Suzanne, I don't like clover sprouts or sunflower sprouts either. But I find pea sprouts sweet and delicious. And I've always loved alfalfa. In small doses, that is. When I was about 3 I used to stuff my mouth full of it and call it " cow food " . And home-sprouted red lentils are simply my favorite food ever. Some raw foodists follow some philosophy that says all legumes are toxic, but I prefer to follow my instincts, and this has helped me enormously to regain my health. I recommend you try several different varieties of sprouts before deciding you don't like any of them! They vary widely! But I do agree with Elchanan on this point: don't eat what tastes bad to you in its whole raw state. Ideally, eat what tastes good to you in its whole raw state--notice this eliminates the option of pizza, because it is neither whole nor raw-- or if you can afford to, financially and health-wise (you're not currently in severe health crisis), go for a gradual transition with plenty of raw gourmet alternatives. Ideal or not, it's better than pizza and ice cream, right? Congratulate yourself! Enjoy yourself! If you feed yourself foods you don't like because you think they're " healthy " you risk creating an unconscious association in your mind between " health " or " raw foods " and negative feelings, which could severely backfire on you down the line. Your body has a great way of telling you what it needs and when it needs it: taste! But it doesn't work so well when it gets confused by blending to disguise taste. Make discovering new raw/whole tastes a fun and pleasurable game, not a duty to health, and that way you won't be neglecting your spirit, which also needs TLC!
