Guest guest
Hi Lynne, This will be brief. Primary types of body weight: 1. Lean tissue 2. Fat 3. Excess water (brine) There are others, but for this discussion these 3 suffice. There is only one way to create lean tissue, and that way is through physical activity. Adding calories without adding matching activity will indeed add weight to your body ... and it will all be fat. 117 is fine at your height, particularly if you don't exercise much or at all. However, if you are undereating calories (fuel) on a chronic basis, which I suspect, then your weight may be in what feel s like a free fall, and you might then grasp for straws (as you do below) to stop the free fall. The solution is to eat enough and to become more active. Use nutridiary.com for a few days to get a sense of what you are actually eating. You'll need a cheapo scale ... food, postal, or the like. Best, Elchanan _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Lynne Moore Wednesday, October 24, 2007 6:22 PM rawfood [Raw Food] Question about weight. I was a little bit concerned when I discovered that I'm down to 117 pounds. I have lost a total of 20 pounds now, since I've started the raw foods diet last March, and I was hoping to stay at 120 pounds. My husband is afraid that I may disappear completely soon. LOL!!! I haven't been this thin since I was 14 and in tenth grade!!! I am 5' 6 1/2 " tall! I know that when I see my Aunt Dorothy next month, she's going to tell me that I'm way too skinny!! She was saying that when I was 20 pounds heavier!! Maybe I should eat more nuts? I do eat 1/2 avocado almost every evening with my salad, so I thought I was getting plenty of fat in my diet. Also, I am not yet 100% raw. I am only about 90% raw right now, I'd say. For the most part, I follow the 80 10 10 diet. If anybody has any advice, I'd appreciate it. I " d be happy to stay at 117, but I really don't want to LOSE ANY more weight!! Thanks so much!! Lynne
Guest guest
Thanks, Elchanan, That's a good idea, since I really have no idea what I am actually eating. I do have a scale; I just need to start using nutridiary.com! I am pretty active, working out at the gym about 5 days a week and taking walks about 4. I also take yoga, step, and dance classes, besides running after a 4 year old! Take Care, Lynne > > Hi Lynne, > > This will be brief. > > Primary types of body weight: > > 1. Lean tissue > 2. Guest guest
Great Lynne, you are way ahead of most people, it seems! Have you looked into an approach to weight-training that uses very slow movement, rather than the usual emphasis upon the number of repetitions? I think you'd benefit greatly (as would we all). Guest guest
Lynne, I suggest that you focus on how you feel, and if you feel good, there is little to worry about. If you want to gain weight, you can easily indulge in avocados, nuts, and so on...but, is that building health? Probably not. In fact, I suspect it will cause you to feel sluggish. May I suggest you engage in weight training to add to your muscles and " round " out your figure? And, as you burn more calories working out with weights and resistance training, you'll need to consume more calories. Hope this helps, Janet rawfood , Lynne Moore <fountayn wrote: I was a little bit concerned when I discovered that I'm down to 117 pounds. Guest guest
Hi Elchanan, No, I never heard of that type of an approach; however, I do try to do my repetitions slowly; I never rush them. I do two sets of 25 on several leg and upper body machines. I always do just one set and then move onto another machine; in other words, I don't do two sets at one time. I " m not exactly sure what you mean by " slow movement. " Thanks, Lynne > > Great Lynne, you are way ahead of most people, it seems! > > Have you looked into an approach to weight-training that uses very slow > movement, rather than the usual emphasis upon the number of repetitions? Guest guest
-ERica, Thanks for your suggestion! That's exactly the same word that my husband used: " disappear " . Maybe I am " free falling, " so I plan to start eating a little more avacado. Maybe I " ll try opening that coconut today to make that coconut smoothie!! I finally received the vanilla beans yesterday, and they are HEAVENLY. I've been using them in fruit smoothies, and my daughter finally likes my smoothies, for a change. Guest guest
-Thanks, Janet, That makes a lot of sense, and I do actually feel pretty good; I think it's more my husband doing the worrying here and not me!!
