Guest guest
Hi All, I'm a newbie here. Just started this past week introducing more raw foods into my diet while trying to phase out the processed foods gradually. I've been almost a total sweets addict up till now. I could easily eat nothing but frosting with a little cake for 3 meals a day. Horrid, I know. I've been tamping that addiction down for weeks but every so often that junkie comes out and I polish off nothing but sweets for lunch or dinner. Anyway, after reading Katya's post, I had to sympathize because I've long realized that when we let go of one addiction, another will usually pop to the surface. When I'm not eating my " comfort food, " then I'm usually substituting shopping. When I can't do that, THEN the hidden emotions and issues that both problems have masked for years come bursting out and that's when the discomfort can really hit you. So, if we can just let go of those false crutches that have been killing our true spirits and face what's really been bugging us, then we can really begin healing. Sounds so easy but boy, it isn't. Anyway, on a raw food topic, this past weekend I juiced the " green lemonade " recipe given in one of the raw food detox books. I got it down ONLY by pretending to be one of the contestants on the Survivor show. It was nasty. All day everything smelled like greens and tasted like greens to me. I used kale, romaine, apples, and a lemon. Does anyone have a green juicing recipe or even a product that is available at health food stores that might be more palatable to my sweet tooth? Guest guest
And thank you for your kind and generous appreciation! It's one thing to publish, it's quite another to receive feedback that something wonderful comes of it. We all need to know that what we do makes a difference. I believe this is one of our core, albeit higher order, needs. Thanks for this post Elchanan. It was simply **beautiful**. I feel the truth of it in my core. Katya.

Hi Dee, Try eating just fruits for a week (pacify that sweet tooth ;o) ), then start eating salads. After a few days of fruit, I find that lettuce and cucumber start to taste really refreshing, and even mildly sweet themselves. I don't go for the hard-to-chew greens, or the ones that get a bitter taste after a couple of bites. I love cos lettuce! I've heard, though haven't tried it myself, that you can even put fruit on a salad, so that might work for you ) Caron
Guest guest
Hi Dee, I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. My favorite smoothie (done in blender or Vita-Mix) is 4-5 bananas, a cup of any other fruit (fresh or frozen berries, nectarines, plums, mangoes, etc.), and a few lettuce leaves (romaine or green or red leaf). I think upping your fruits will help your sweets cravings. We're designed to eat sweets (healthy ones, in the form of fruit). Guest guest
Hi Dee, I read that recipe too and just reading it, I said no way. This is what I make my green smoothies from and my husband likes them too: 2 leaves kale (stem from leaf down removed) 3 " piece of cucumber (I peel with a vegie peeler leaving on peel every other slice) 1 " wedge of cabbage 1 banana a little parsley 1 cup organic apple juice It is very green, but it is sweet and tasty. I tried to put celery in once and it overwhelmed everything--and I don't like the taste of celery. Guest guest
Hi Dee, I agree with Laurie that more sweet fruit with your greens in the form of a smoothie (not a juice) is awesome. Hint: Start with a small amount of greens (just a couple leaves) and work your way up to putting more greens in it. Fruit on salad is great as well. I love fresh grapes sliced on my salad, or pineapple. Yummy My daughter likes sliced bananas on hers. Have a sweet, fruity week ~Sarah Laurie Swanson <laurie wrote: Hi Dee, I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
