Guest guest
Caron, this is too funny. Before I realized that this post was FROM you, I was about to forward it TO you!!! LOL, too quick on the draw (almost). The growers I know all start new trees from cuttings, not from seeds. OTOH, we've had some seeds sprout as volunteers. Go figure! Have you attempted to contact the Date People here in n the U.S? I'm wondering whether they ship overseas. let me know, please, if you would like some help with this, I've known Jaime for years. The best source is a grower. Happy to provide info if anyone is interested. Yes! Do you know a grower in Australia? ;oP I've been trying to sprout seeds from the dates we've been munching, but not sure if they want to grow for me. My thumbs are far from green. I've heard from a lot of people here (who I've asked), that cuttings from fruit trees are " better " in general, in that they're already established, and you don't have to wait the X number of years for it to grow from a seed. I don't mind the wait. Either way, I don't know of any trees to get a cutting from. I've had a few seeds look like they were going to sprout, when I cut them out of the dates - I wonder if maybe I should let the date " grow old " gracefully, and see if it sprouts then? >Have you attempted to contact the Date People here in n the U.S? I don't know what the Australian quarentine laws are re bring fruit trees into the country. I know the dates themselves are imported, " Californian dates " , that I get through the organic fruit guy, but I don't know whether trees can be imported. It's well worth finding out though, so I'll look into it, and see where to go from there. I may yet take you up on your kind offer ;o) Then all I'll need is a banana plantation and we'll be set! Guest guest
Caron, About 4 years ago on a drive through Alice Springs, I visited a date farm. I forget the details, but it shouldn't be too hard to get the info on the internet. Good luck! Colin Caron <carongroups wrote: - Elchanan >Caron, this is too funny.
