Guest guest
Not precisely correct, but in the correct spirit. Mild to moderate dehydration -- the kind most of society doesn't even recognize as dehydration at all -- is a much larger factor than is generally acknowledged, as is consumption of salt and spices, as I mentioned earlier. Another little trick for staying warm is to make sure that your neck, particularly the back of your neck, stays warm. Why? That is just about where the thermal regulator itself (your thermostat, if you will) sits. For example, an underlayer from, say, Patagonia that zips up around the neck is very effective. Guest guest
Hi Erin and everyone, It's your use of " majority " , saying that the majority of the heat loss it through the head. I'll not go into this now ... what you wrote is correct in spirit/direction, as I already shared. Guest guest
Mea culpa. And Elchanan was right that " majority " was a word not very carefully chosen by me when describing the body heat lost through the tops of our head. Funny thing is I knew it too! Another funny thing; just today, I got an email from a raw food blogger, wherein she talks about keeping warm during the winter on raw. One of her suggestions was to wear a cap indoors! <He says rubbing the knuckles of his right hand on his shirt> She gave a figure of 30%. Whether that's the greatest single location of heat loss could still save the word choice, but either way, and so folks know, I was just playing w/ Elchanan. Some gentle jabbing, nothing more. I have no vested interest in " winning. " Time to head to the recycling center. Woohoo, country livin'! Guest guest
I wear a cap inside sometimes - not sure the percentage but it doesn't really matter does it? If I'm warmer and feel better that's enough. This is about tuning into our own bodies anyway right? I can't warm you if I put a cap on me! Louise rawfood , " Erin " <zenpawn wrote: > > Mea culpa. Guest guest
Indeed, it matters not whether a majority or just a plurality of heat is lost through our heads, I still recommend cold raw fooders wear caps indoors. It'll be all the rage! The new way of identifying rawists(?*) when inside; the ones wearing winter hats. What a fun " Where's Waldo? " image that paints. LOL, -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog *I think the raw food community could use a shortened label for its practitioners, but this attempt sounds kind of like nudists, which may not fly. - loulin3 rawfood Sunday, December 30, 2007 9:30 AM Re: [Raw Food] Keeping warm: Keep heaad & neck warm I wear a cap inside sometimes - not sure the percentage but it doesn't really matter does it? Guest guest
Yes - Elchanan mentioned recently on one of the groups - we belong to several in common - aboutr how keeping the neck warm made a big differnce in body warmth. I used that information yesterday while I was out and about doing errands (the grocery stores were " insane " !) and it did make a difference walking in the snow in Wisconsin. I didn't have a hat on but had my scarf. Didn't miss the hat until later I noticed I left it. didn't miss it for warmth.
