Guest guest
I always make New Year's Resolutions. Even if I don't keep them for the entire year, at least I took some time to visualize what I want and ways to achieve it. I usually try to make one goal is each of several areas of my life. My nutrition goal is very similar to yours, Patricia. I also plan to eat much more raw food. I've been reading Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and I am planning to at least give his program the six weeks he asks for so I can see how I do on the plan. I am still in the process of reading the book, but I have already started adding a ton of fresh fruit and vegetables to my diet, and I am amazed at how full I am. I never ate salads as a meal because I didn't think they would be filling enough, but with the addition of a bit of avocado and some pumpkin seeds or chickpeas I'm not hungry again for hours. I also avoided them because I didn't want all of the fat & calories from the salad dressing even the " low fat " dressings are high in calories and I loathed fat free dressings. But, now I've found one that I like. It's Newman's Own Low-fat Sesame Ginger Dressing and it so delicious and has only 35 calories and 1.5 g. of fat in 2 tablespoons (which is plenty of dressing!). My fitness goals include daily exercise (aiming for 7200 minutes this year) and a yoga class. The rest of my goals are not nutrition or fitness related. Have a great New Year everyone! Kristin Patricia Sant <drpatsant wrote: Good idea, Marie. Yes, I have made some resolutions pertaining to health this year. First off, I've decided to eat more and more raw foods. I've always disliked leafy salads (although chopped up vegetables that sometimes go into salads, dressed as a salad, I've always enjoyed). This last year I started to add more and more uncooked leafy greens (and more cooked ones too) into my meals, with the result that I really miss it if I don't get them. I love my salads now, the more variety of leaves in them (along with other things) the better. NOW, for 2008 I plan to eat more raw foods in general. I already eat a lot of fruit (not other kinds of dessert except once in a long while), but it's the veggies. And of course, I'd like to start sprouting grains etc. and see what I can make with those. Also, a small thing, I tried my first 'green' smoothie this morning. I just threw some lovely romaine in with the fruit and water instead of soymilk, gave it a whirl and there it was, beautifully fresh and clean and delightfully tasting of a summer garden. There are lots of recipes kicking around these groups, so I'm going to make a collection of them and start trying them. Sooooooo healthy and so refreshing! My other resolutions don't pertain to eating, health or weightloss. Oh but wait, one of them does. I have promised myself to spend more time on my yoga - it does me so much good that I think why not devote more time to what makes me feel fit, relaxed and happy! Okay, over to you guys. Any resolutions? You know I used to say I wouldn't make them because as soon as they're made they're broken. But Marie's right - keep them modest and attainable - then I think they have a hope of lasting the month out at least If not, then I'll make them again just before the Chinese New Year!!! Guest guest
I need to get exercising again. New Years is as good a time as any. I seem to find it easier this time of year, once Christmas is past and I am ready to get my life back in gear again. Last year I managed to keep up a good exercise routine from January to June before dropping off. So I lost weight the first half of the year, and then maintained (lost a couple of pounds, but not much) the second half of the year. That's pretty good! Since early November, we have been on a gluten-free, casein-free, corn-free (as much as possible) diet. It has been interesting! And despite having spent pretty much all my spare time in December baking for all of the various events so that DS would have " safe " food to eat, I have maintained my weight pretty well. The scale has crept up a bit this week, but it is a week before my period, so as long as I can get some exercise in this week, it should be back down again in about ten days. Since I don't want to spend all of my time cooking, and yet most of our diet has to be from scratch, I have invested in a few tools to make things easier. I bought a Kitchen Aid mixer to speed up breadmaking, and it has improved the final product quite a bit as well. Then yesterday, with a combination of sales, coupons, and a gift card, I bought a combination rice cooker/steamer, a food processor/blender/smoothie maker (with a cool little tap on the side), and some small tools (manual chopper, flour sifter, apple corer). The rice cooker and blender came with some good recipes to try out, so I'm going to work my way through those. The recipes that came with the Kitchen Aid were all no good, with the gluten-free, casein-free thing, but I have lots of recipes available already. The last thing I need to get is a freezer, so that I can double and triple recipes and save meals and single servings for convenience, so that I don't have to be cooking and baking every night. As far as the rest of my resolutions, I haven't decided yet. In past years I have used " Your Best Year Yet " to help me to plan, but I think most of my resolutions are going to be by " default " this year, with my work goals already set, a new diet to work out, and losing a bit more weight. Any others will have to be smaller goals. Pam On Jan 1, 2008 10:10 AM, kristin.noelle <kristin.noelle wrote: > > I always make New Year's Resolutions.
