Hi Shari

I got the following on another list - is it what you are involved with - or of any interest to you?

The first thousand copies of Stephen Walsh's new book Plant BasedNutrition and Health have already sold out, but more are expected intime for the weekend - and the author may even be around to dedicatethem personally.Lots of other animal-friendly organisations will be there too - plus, iflast time is anything to go by, at least a thousand punters from allover the country and beyond. If you fancy a snack beforehand, Cambridge Vegans will be meeting asusual [it's the second Saturday of the month] for chocolate fudge cakeand other goodies from 11 a.m. at the Rainbow veggie restaurant oppositeKing's College chapel.Do join us in Cambridge on Saturday if you possibly can.All good wishes,(name removed) ps. there are trains every half hour from kings cross [london] - 45minute journey - and good connections to most other parts of the countryby train or coach. or try 07957 588253 and see if there's a busorganised from your area.

> Afraid not - I hope it goes well. How did the Newchurch guinea pigs demo

go?

Hi Jo. I think that info you sent must be part of the demo. Apparently it's

a march and rally... There are coaches going nationally so hopefully it will

have quite a big turn-out. Visit www.primateprison.org - that has all the

info on the actual demo and what it's for etc.

The Newchurch guinea pigs demo was pretty good. We marched around Lichfield

town centre for quite a while and people stood and took notice (well, they

couldn't not, really). It was my first 'proper' demo and when a couple of

the animal rights guys gave speeches I almost cried cause it was so sad. I

felt a bit stupid. lol. I'm so emo! lol. Just thinking about the cruelty

involved makes me want to cry though. Some people didn't want to take flyers

but a lot did. I'm not sure what has been achieved from the demo but

hopefully something. There's a site at www.guineapigs.org.uk - you should

have a look, it has all the up to date info on the campaign. I did find out

that my animal rights friend from my town has been arrested 17 times, which

is a bit scary! I don't want to be arrested... I'm a good girl. lol. It

seems there are so many rules to protesting, like you are not allowed to go

to the farm after 4pm else you'll get arrested etc. I think it sucks that

animal rights campaigners get arrested for just trying to draw attention to

the cruelty. I can understand it if they're trespassing or something, but

just for standing outside with a banner, or on the side of a road... it

seems unfair. How else are we supposed to get people to take notice?

HI Shari

It sounds like you're getting very clued up on the ins and outs of demonstrating, which is good. I've not been to many picket type protests, only marches in London, and hunt sabbing. Luckily I've not been arrested - yet! The police do keep files on demonstrators though - that's why they take so many photos. I think that the demos do bring to the attention of the general public the nasty things that go on. They wouldn't hear about them if we didn't protest.
