Guest guest
I have never had a problem figuring out whether to feed my pets vegan or not because I only got vegan animals, and figured I wouldn't get a dog or cat because they weren't vegan and I didn't want to deal with the moral problems, didn't have alot of extra money to buy expensive vegan foods (I have two kids), ect. Well, that worked until I went to the Co Op today and saw the cutest puppies this hippy guy was giving away. Resist, resist, resist, doh!Proud owner of a big puppy! I got puppy chow, I didn't know what else to do! I think I am going to start mixing it with lentils, beans, nutritional yeast, vegis, in hopes of starting to get the dog used to these kinds of foods and move it towards a vegan diet. Any other ideas? He's big! So he will take alot of food when he's grown. He's some kind of a shepard Akita Wolf mix, really cute. No matter how far you have gone on the wrong road, turn back. -Turkish proverbFact: Each gallon of gas used by a car contributes almost 20 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. A single car driving 1,000 miles a month adds up to 120 tons of CO2 annually. Fact: One crop of hemp grown on one acre of land produces the same amount of pulpable fiber as one acre of 20 year old trees. Guest guest
Before I get the usual run of email onlist and offlist telling me that dogs are carnivores (they're not, they're omnivores; cats are carnivores) and that it is unnatural and cruel to feed dogs non-meat food and unethical to force my own ethical beliefs on an animal (whew!), I would point out that I am simply responding to a query on the list. Okay? ;=) Wyson, Natural Life and several other companies make excellent vegan or vegetarian dog food. (Fyi, I buy Natural Life kibble for my beagles.) Also, the following lists may be able to help: compassionateguardians/ vegetarian_dogs/ http://group.veggiepets/ Additionally, there are lots of places on the net, in addition to PETA, that are helpful. I cite a very few here: http://www.vegsoc.org/info/dogfood1.html http://www.vegetariandogs.com http://www.vegpets.com http://www.helpinganimals.com/ Good luck with your pupper ;=) Best, Pat -- SANTBROWN townhounds/ http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet " - Gandhi * " The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men " - Leonardo da Vinci ----------

Guest guest
You can only try..maybe a little bit at a time..if she is eating tin food then it is probably too late...(just opinion) - sam hall Monday, October 13, 2003 5:39 AM Re: Re: Help needed! >>(they're not, they're omnivores; cats arecarnivores) ...I have a cat,Pumpkin (my true love, lol) But she's almost 3yrs old & since I've had her she has not eatten a vegan diet (I still live at home and the parents don't think it's right, blah blah blah) and I'm just wondering but would it be too late in the game to try to switch her?Sant & Brown <santbrown wrote: Before I get the usual run of email onlist and offlist telling me thatdogs are carnivores (they're not, they're omnivores; cats arecarnivores) and that it is unnatural and cruel to feed dogs non-meatfood and unethical to force my own ethical beliefs on an animal (whew!),I would point out that I am simply responding to a query on the list.Okay? ;=)Wyson, Natural Life and several other companies make excellent vegan orvegetarian dog food.
