Guest guest
Forgive me if someone else has already mentioned this, but a friend recently asked me what Shellac was. I told him, as best I could remember and asked why, and he said " Oh, cos its on the list of ingredients in some orange juices " apparently some fruits are coated in it. Now, unless this is due to insects naturally crawling around, secreting away all over wild oranges, it makes at least some OJ non-vegan. Richard ps yes gelatine is present in photographic emulsion. Ricoh brought out a digital camera some time ago and had it endorsed by the vegetarian society in the UK, but of course all digital cameras are, they were just the only ones to think of this marketing angle. As far as I am aware, there isnt any non-gelatine film available, but I havent really looked into it. Digital looks like the most animal friendly way to go, shame that they use batteries so quickly, but there's always rechargeables.
Guest guest
You do have to be careful with fruit juices because of the shellac used to glaze the fruit. The same applies to buying juice in a juice bar or cafe - it's not necessarily vegan. Guest guest
ok..splittin hairs.. but.. if you get orange juice, lets assume from a store...why would it have shellac on it...? they put shellac on fruits to make em shiny..same with vegetable wax... now, a juice maker doesn't care a wit what the fruit looks like it..he could care less if they were brown and lumpy, as long as the juice/pulp is ok... , " Heartwork " <Heartwork@o...> wrote: > You do have to be careful with fruit juices because of the shellac used to glaze the fruit. Thanks! ------------------------------- I use plastic containers, they look like Tupperware, but a lot less expensive. I buy them in the supermarket and they nest well. The bags would slide around too much. But make sure you use a sweet orange, like a navel. They set out boxes and boxes during Dec. w/notes to take them. They were huge and delish. ---------------------------- Can I borrow your neighbor? WITH the orange trees, of course!
