I was just wondering what kind of oils any of you keep around and possible

uses for them. Like would vegetable oil be more versatile then say peanut

oil or canola oil? And I've heard a lot of talk about Flaxseed and I saw the

flaxseed oil and wondered what that's good for.

I choose different oils based on what I'm cooking. Some oils are

unstable at high temperatures.

If I make stir-fry, I fry in peanut oil and then season with sesame

oil at the end.

If I'm making a dressing for a veggie sub, I'll use extra virgin

olive oil.

For lightly spraying a pan for something like a veggie burger, I'll

use canola oil.

Experiment with different types of oils. They all have unique

flavors that can do wonders for food.

As for flaxseed oil, I haven't been able to get my hands on any in my

local area. But I believe most vegans use it because it's rich in

the Omega-3s that omnis get from fish.

Hi Paul,

Flaxseed is very good for you because it contains Omega3 and Omega 6

essential fatty acids. I have never used the oil before though.

I usually use olive oil when cooking, stir-frying, baking etc. Alot

of times I will also mix in chili flavored sesame oil.

Many people like flax seed oil on salads. Remember, it has to be

refrigerated all the time and it goes off rather easily and therefore

gets to taste a bit, well, off - rancid even :=( It's not to be used for

cooking - that is, not heated up.

I use canola oil, sesame oil, and olive oil. I generally keep in peanut

oil too, for stirfries, but I am currently trying (heavens know why) to

prune my pantry down to workable size.

Dunno if this helps ;=)

Best,

Pat/Canada
