Guest guest
Hi, I'll leave it to others to recommend AR and vegan books, as I'm still going through the 'classics', if that is the right term for them. But if you're after quality fantasy, try Eco's latest couple - Island of the Day Before and Boudalino. They aren't high fantasy, but there is so little written these days that isn't derivitive that the genre seems pretty much dead at the moment. Last original work I can think of before them was Mythago Wood, by Holdstock. Kerr, for her first few. Popes and Phantoms. Same goes for the horror market for the last few years as far as I've seen. Bad Rice rip-offs, people who think lots of pages make up for lack of ideas...I tend to recommend going back to pre-first world war short stories for decent horror. (Except for my own horror writing, naturally!) Ron Hutton is primarily an historian, so he writes serious academic books on the subject (although I believe he is also a Druid). Starhawk writes much more practical witchcraft / magical activism type stuff. I must read some of hers sometime! BB Peter

Guest guest
I'm reading The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I'm only about a third into the book and can't pass judgment yet, but so far it's pretty emotional. I'm also re-reading the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt imysteries by Anne Perry. They're a series set in Victorian London about an inspector and his wife, who uses her social contacts to help solve his cases (she's from the upper class and scandalized her family by marrying a policeman.) Anne Perry was one of the girls the movie " Heavenly Creatures " was about. Guest guest
Read Everville but if it's the one I'm thinking of (lose the plot - in more ways than one probably! - minutes after reading most books!) didn't realise it was one of a series. Never got into Imajica & have still got TGASS so probably haven't read that either. It's a rare book that impresses me enough to leave it's title with me tho having said that I couldn't tell you the titles of all the Robin Hobb stuff which I *loved*. Guest guest
i was always sorta so-so on brooks.. some of his shanara stuff was alright, others just seemed cranked out... nope, not into pratchett i read the talisman(with straub wasn't it?)..gaws, ferever ago..i only vaguely remember it... i just know it flips back and forth at the end a LOT! fraggle Terry Brooks has written some good stuff, I particularly like the Shannara Series and The Word And The Void Trilogy is excellent. Have you read any Terry Pratchett? His Discworld series is at times hilarious if you like English humour with your fantasy. I agree with you that the Jordan books, they get a bit samey after the first three or four. I'm currently reading Stephen King (co author) The Talisman and dipping into the many Star Wars books which are OK if you want some light reading.
