Guest guest
Greeting All, I'm Dave Brown; I'm 29. I'm an Administrative-specialist, by chance not choice. I'd rather be teaching 3rd to 6th or 11th to 12th graders. The moral of the story is, get your degree! My wife of 5yrs, and our soon to be two children, and I live in the middle of the Mediterranean. Seriously! I love to learn (informally) I read a lot. My Biggest pet peeve besides "self-imposed ignorance" (the kind that cause omnivores to think there's something wrong with herbivores), is an elitist attitude (that allow vegans to think there's something wrong with omnivores). I think neither. Rest assured, however, I'm not a flamethrower, and the worst thing I would do to either, would be ignoring them. That's why invented block lists... Though I’m willing to bet that you all do a good job of policing that element yourselves. I'm a "Virtual" Vegan (but still growing); it's hard work swimming across the current. I've been meat-free for 19 ‘n’ a half months. As I said I'm a "virtual" vegan, partially cause I'm the only (Veggie) in my family. I know. Excuses, excuses... I try to 'lead' by example but <previously mentioned swimming metaphor>. My original decision was based on animal-rights. I love animals, but I'm a "Dependant Animal Guardian", which is the enlightened, vestigial, descendant of non-human slavery a.k.a. pet-ownership. So there's another skeleton in my closet. Then I began to recognize the health benefits. This is where I find the majority of “us” possess the least amount of knowledge; ironically it's the strongest leg in our platform. Then I began to understand the environmental benefits. This is a little more vague, and there’s still a lot of guessing going from both sides. The humanistic benefits are actually a derivative of the health and environmental aspects from a human benefit perspective. Now, it’s a cumulative thing, which is actually a far more stable platform to argue from than my original: "Because, I just love animals". I find that most omnivores are genuinely curious as to why “we” made our decision. And! They are more willing to accept the logically sound arguments for health than they are the impassioned sermons against animal cruelty. I'm a "Materialist" philosophically speaking (see Marvin Harris- Anthropologist, James Lovelock Geo-physiologist-Ext.), so morals and ethics mean little to me, cause they like any human social structure are and always will be in a state of flux. I'm all about enlightened self-interest; to put it plainly I would eat just about anything to avoid starving to death, but I've never found myself in a starvation situation yet and therefore, I can pick and choose those things which harm me and the environment least. I don't judge meat eaters of any species; I love wolves they are beautiful, magnificent, regal, creatures. They perform a vital service in the natural order. If I’m out of place let me know and I’ll bow out gracefully. My favorite meal's a good mixed salad, I mean REALLY mixed, I'm talking raisins chopped Brazil nuts, an' a splash of well-seasoned vinegarette. I'm looking of interaction with people, from whom I don't have to fear incessant condensation. I'm willing to contribute interaction and an extra pare of IQ points, nothing fancy. I'm hoping this isn’t a dating service in disguise is it or at least not "just" a dating service. Cause I'm not looking for more than e-friends (plural). Realistically, Dave Mail - More reliable, more storage, less spam
Guest guest
I don’t judge animal eaters; figure that we’re all on the same line just different parts of it. Some draw the line at eating their own species, some at eating so-called companion animals or primates. Besides, I got 2 dogs (from death row) a year ago one of whom is a *very* fussy eater – nothing but skin & bone when I got her, so she eats animal. Feel a bit of a fraud calling myself a vegan when I feed my dependants on flesh. So, how do you live seriously? I think it’s all a bit of a joke..! -----Original Message----- Dave Brown [quickformgreen] .. Greeting All, I'm Dave Brown; I'm 29. I'm an Administrative-specialist, by chance not choice. Guest guest
Viv, I guess one lives " seriously " , by actually living where one says one lives. Meaning: I (seriously) live in the Mid-Med (as in I'm not making it up), it's not all it's cracked up to be though. Island economies are hell (not that any economy isn't) ask any one that lives in Hawaii (and doesn't own a hotel) would know what I'm talking about. My life would have been easier if I hadn't fallen for an economic-materialist or an island-girl, but I did and I'm not sure I could have fallen for anyone else. Anyway, love is something for which, I'm willing to make almost infinite sacrifices. Blah, blah. Point was, as said, I wasn't kidding about my locality. Regarding, Guardianship of Non-human Dependants, Hiedi was " rescued " (as they call it) because she was the " undesirable " " runt " of an over large Rottweiler litter, and Boy was abandoned to the streets in our neighborhood, by his former " Owner " . We adopted Tuffty, a Cameo Tabby, also abandoned, and two Red-eared sliders (aquatic- turtles), " Pets " of a relative who " didn't expect them to live so long! " The average life span of a captive born slider is 40yrs. for those of you who don't know and are considering the burden of responsibility for their care. I don't purchase non-humans (or humans for that matter). In my opinion they are no more my possession than the child(ren) I (will be) raise(ing). It's about provision, responsibility and accountability in my book. Not ownership and authority. Mind you, to be responsible and accountable some authority is implied, its the emphasis of them that is differs. So what parts don't you consider to be a joke?
