Guest guest
Why is there not a bubble for " both " ? I consider my choice to have both rational and emotional explanations. Guest guest
Because, " Both " is the easy answer that every one would opt for if they were given that choice. And the poll designed to see how many of use were emotional convicted or rationally convicetd. I would say both myself, I " love " animals, and I " hate " to see them suffer for my benefit. But " Love " and " Hate " are subjective and I can't win areguments with them therefore I choose to remain " Virtually " Vegan because my reason leads me to believe that it is beneficial. Therefore I answered my own poll, " rational " . Some people tend to careless about the rationel of Veggieism, and that's quite alright, if you not intending to convinece omnivores that your point of view is a " rational " one and therefore should be adopted by them. Rationel tends to win more arguments than emotion. Does this answer your question. David > Why is there not a bubble for " both " ? Guest guest
That came across as 'condasending' didn't it?!? I'm sorry about that I didn't mean it that way. Non-the less I retract it and apologies profusely. , " David Brown " <quickformgreen> wrote: > > Does this answer your question. >

Guest guest
Hi David, Whilst veganism can be rationally justified, if you cared not a jot for animals, the environment, or your own health - which is to say you did not react emotionally on some level to these external stimuli - you would not be a vegan. Very few decisions are either entirely rational or entirely emotional. Those that appear rational are generally only considered in the first place because of an emotional impulse, and those that are emotional can only be considered if at least some element of the rational is applied. And indeed, I would say that the strongest arguments are generally those that appeal to reason and to emotion. Would Singer's Animal Rights have as much strength if it only appealed to reason, or only to emotion? I rather doubt it. So 'both' might be the easy answer, but for me at least - and probably most other vegans - it is also the honest one. Reason both informs and strengthens an emotional instinct.
