Guest guest Posted March 18, 2004 Report Share Posted March 18, 2004 Has anybody else gotten the fifteen e-mails I've received in the last week telling us all how to oppose the Taiwan Referendum? Apparently it's a move to free Taiwan from Chinese rule and we're supposed to oppose this. Now, I generally support liberal causes, but I consider one of those causes to be human rights. So, pardon my French, but I'm really irked about this and my response is FUCK CHINA!!!!! These are the people who have given us the continued occupation of Tibet, Tianenmen Square, and the imprisonment and torture of citizens based on their spiritual beliefs (those who follow Falun Gong.) If I lived under Chinese rule, I'd want out, too. I'm not doing a thing to help these people. It's derived from the german word for strick as in hit. Sh!t, is the one that's derived from french and believe it or not I don't know what the translation of the origin is. I think though that the motivation of this opposition is based on an antiglobalization sentementnand that Taiwan once freed from Chinese rule would fall into lock step behind the capitalist engins that help support the US's excesively disperportunate consumption of global resources. And the people of countires like Taiwan don't fair much better once the trans-national corporations sink thier teeth into them than they would under china.
