Guest guest
Hi group! I joined you in late February and have been lurking and hanging out, just reading along and appreciating the information here. It’s great to have a forum in which to meet and get support from fellow vegans. I am 34 years old, and have been vegan since January 3rd of this year, along with my six children – the older three, ages 13, 12 and 11 are really the ones who deserve the credit for helping me find the strength and determination to do this. I’ve always wanted to be a vegetarian, but weakly succumbed to the way I was raised and later to my husband’s eating preferences. When I began educating myself on living a vegetarian lifestyle I didn’t see how I could NOT be vegan, after learning what I did! So we just did it. My husband is very supportive and eats anything I introduce to him, but I know that he still eats meat when he’s out. Along with a healthy vegan diet, I have implemented a regular exercise routine and since the New Year I have lost 34.5 lbs. I feel so much better, have more energy, and look forward to every beautiful day! So my two stupid questions are (as someone pretty new and still learning – never stop learning!): What is a straight-edge? If someone sports a pin that says “Eat A Vegan” is he pro or anti vegan? (I’m afraid to ask him, LOL) Well, I do hope to pipe in more often and I look forward to getting to know everyone better! Lisa
Guest guest
What is a straight-edge? str8 edge is someone who abstains from drugs..and depending on the person and their beliefs, they could also abstain from sex, meat, etc str8 nedge was originally an offshot of the punk movement in washington DC in the early 1980's...it rapidly spread across the country(and world) and has changed its prime focus a few times in the intervening years cheers fraggle

(I’m afraid to ask him, LOL) depends... my guess, its anti-.... unless its of a sexual nature..but it doesn't sound it... so, go with anti-vegan oh, and welcome cheers fraggle

Guest guest
Hi and welcome, I am a new member as well. Congratulations on your weight loss that is terrific!! When I turned vegan I too lost some excess weight, I went from 235 lbs to where I am now at 175 lbs. This took a little over 9 months to accomplish. I have been a vegan just over a year now, my only advice would be to track your nutrient intake to assure proper nutrition. It can be very daunting for a new vegan to compose a meal that is nutritionally sound. There are several computer programs and books in the form of food diaries or logs that can help you do that, very easily. Best of luck and keep up the good work may there be peace for all , " l. a l j u w a i e " <aljuwaie@c...> wrote: > Hi group! Guest guest
this may be overkill, as i don't know whether or not anyone's answered your questions (which aren't really all that stupid!), but i think "straight-edge" is used to describe someone strictly against any number of things. one could be a straight-edge vegan or pacifist (usually, i've heard the term used to describe a person who avoids all types of drugs). and i suspect that anyone wearing an "eat a vegan" pin is opposed to our higher morality! the only fellow i've met bearing a similar statement was very much not a vegan! and as for the never-stop-learning philosophy, I APPROVE!!! *huge grin* (my name's brii. hi!) >"l. a l j u w a i e" > > > Intro and 2 stupid questions >Thu, 18 Mar 2004 13:20:39 -0500 > >Hi group! Guest guest
Thanks Nicholas! Your response is very encouraging! (I have another 40 I would *like* to lose by July-ish, much to the disapproval of my DH, lol. Lucky me, he likes me just the way I am!) I feel pretty good about the nutrients I am getting; fortunately I am creative in the kitchen and we get a lot of vegetables and whole grains, fresh fruits etc. I just got a pressure cooker and what a great thing it is! I’ve been told about B12 but we all have a Luna Bar for breakfast and I see that they have 100% RDA of B12 so I guess we have that covered too! ) In general, I just feel great lately!!! Welcome to the group! (from a newbie to a newbie:o) It’s nice to meet you!
