It appears that Vegetarianism is increasing only in North America. In Europe,

Australia, Africa and the Midle East it is still very much unknown.

Is this correct ? Do you feel this trend changing ? Any related info./comments

welcome.

Hi Vijay

I don't think that is correct. Veggieism is increasing in Britain.

Hi Craig

I must admit that if I had been asked which country eats more meat I would automatically think of North America - hamburgers and all that!

Vegetararianism incease in britain when mad cow disease was around and more

so when foot and mouth reappeared. The number of veggie restaurants have

increased and there are more veggie foods in the shops..that is a sigh of an

increase here.

Hiya Jo

well it has been a couple years since I saw the figures

but...

Australia is the per capita largest meat eating country

USA, Canada, UK, are all about the same give or take a couple kilo's a year

the rest of Europe varied and China came in about half per capita

I wish I could remember where I read that and get the current numbers

anyway all the best

Hi Craig

I haven't seen any figures - but when we have been in France and Germany it was difficult to find vegan food in restaurants, and in Bavaria it was impossible.

we shouldn't confuse quantity with saturation

in French cooking they use meat and meat products in everything

but they still serve plenty of veggies (just covered in butter yewwll) hence the vegan issue

I think the figures I read come from commercial meat slaughtered not cuisine

I think Germany was high on the list too but there really wasn't allot of difference in ranking between

number 1 meat eaters and

number 20 meat eaters.

I will endeavour to find my source see if I can shed some better light on this

all the best

I lived in South America for a year (in Chile) and while I don't have

statistics, I definitely remember that they eat far less meat than North

Americans.
