Hi all,

Remember how conflicted I was about taking that job with the Humane Society.

Well, it's no longer an issue. After about two months of working there,

they fired me. Without warning and without telling me any good reason.

They just said that I wasn't confident in my work and it wasn't working out.

I didn't really like the job, but I really needed the money and I've never

been fired before. I've quit before I got fired, but this is the first time

I've actually been fired from a job. It's a real blow to my self esteem

that I apparently can't even hack a $7 an hour menial job. I've been

depressed ever since this happened and don't know how I'm going to pay my

student loans.

I guess I'm just feeling really sorry for myself. Sorry to lay this all on

you guys.

Love,

Anna

Perhaps they picked up on the fact that you didn't like the job?

My understanding of the USA is that it's scarily easy to fire people,

and companies will happily fire someone, particularly $7/ph manual

workers who are easily replaceable, on the basis that the person they

get in the marketplace will probably be better ... rather than on the

basis that there's anything intrinsically wrong with the new hire.

Many years ago, I went out with an American paralegal. As far as I can

tell, she was really good at her job, but they fired her anyway. She

took it in her stead, and got another job fairly soon - but she strongly

suspected that it was because they knew about me, suspected she might

leave to go to the UK, and wanted to fire her at a time of their

choosing.

Oh, but you *can* hack it.

Here are some very important books to read:

(1) How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie

(2) Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain

Join your local Public Library and borrow them. The Dale Carnegie book is a life

time buy and worth it.

Debt/Money in the bank are all just numbers. When you go to sleep think that you

are a Millionaire and you have a Million bucks in the bank, everything is going

fine and everyone loves you. You will sleep a lot better. :)

Debt is just a number, if you worry about it your health will eventually

dimnish. Two years down the road, you can still have more debt and be sad and

sick or happy and healthy it is up to you.

Rather than looking at things as you and the bank, look at it as you and the

Universe as a whole. The Universe also needs to give you the opportunity to pay

back the debt. As long as you are sincere and trying hard, focus on the

positives.

Feel free to share whatever you want and any other related comments here.

I am sorry that happened to you! To fire you because you don't seem "confident" enough...well, gee, that doesn't seem right. Confidence comes with time. What meanies!

Please try not to allow this to effect your sense of self. Even if you weren't as confident as they would've liked... I think most people would have given it some more time.

Hey Anna,

They didnt sound like a humane society to me anyhoo!, dont take it personally, it means jack sh*t. Your potential will be realised by an employer, and you will soon forget this small interlude in a long life. Hope you soon put this behind you and look forward.

Wow! I hope things start looking up for you. From what you told us

before it sounds like they couldn't hack someone working there who

actually cared about the animals. Don't feel bad, you did what you

could.
