Guest guest
I just had a discussion with my sister and didn't know how to answer her questions so I wanted to see if any of you know more about the issue. We were talking about Raw Vegan. I am not Raw, but I'm Vegan and eat Raw as much as possible and totally believe in it. She is really into Fertility and Natural Child Birth and Everything that goes with it. She heard on one of her " parenting " e-lists that a woman decided to go Raw Vegan and stopped menstruating. And also said that her Raw Vegan mentor said that it is normal for women to stop menstruating or have it slow down a lot when you go Raw. My sister now thinks that Raw Vegan must not be healthy at all and that you cant get all the nutrition you need that way. Another one of her arguments is that when we were younger (before I even went Veg. at all) in our tiny hometown, there was a man who was (supposedly) Raw Vegan. He died and it was said that the reason for his death was malnutrition. Now I don't know all the facts of that, or what exactly his diet was. I do remember them saying he ate a lot of nuts. I didn't know what to say to my sis. About all this stuff. I did say I would research it and let her know what I found out. If any of you know anything about all this PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks, Heidi

Guest guest
I think the thing that makes raw so much more difficult is the relative scarcity of protein sources... No peanut butter (I think?), no tofu, none of that lovely fake meat that makes my life worth living.... Plus, when I think of going raw, I think about how often it happens that I'm starving for an afternoon, because I can't find anything to eat, wherever it is I am, and how much more often that kind of thing must happen if you go raw! Requires way more planning & much higher organization skills than I happen to be capable of! Guest guest
This would indicating that they were not eating enough in the way of calories. I cannot think of any other reason for menstruation to stop. As with any other change in diet it is a good idea to read up on it and keep lists so that you know you are obtaining enough of everything. Guest guest
Yes. This used to happen to me rather often and the doctor said it was lack of body fat. In other words, I wasn't eating enough to keep a healthy level of body fat. sara , " Jo " <Heartwork@o...> wrote: > This would indicating that they were not eating enough in the way of > calories. Guest guest
I do not like raw nuts at all! Where's the salty crunchy goodness you expect from a niice nut when they're raw? It's nowhere! Ick. I'm glad to hear someone enjoys raw nuts though... Leaves more delcious roasted lovliness for me! Gaije On Tue, 3 Aug 2004 12:42pm, Peter wrote: > Hi Gaije > Everything has some, but, come on... Guest guest
I don't think the ones easily available canned are raw. This is what I'm saying... Those are delicious, and usually roasted/toasted up for extra salty crunchy goodness! Look to see what the can says next time, and let us know. Guest guest
Hi Gaije I love nuts - I usually only eat them raw about once a week, but could eat them every day - apart from the fact that they are fairly calorific - and I don't need too many calories. Not being a big fan of salt, I think it's a terrible thing to do to a nut :-) The "raw" ones don't taste at all salty... as to what they do taste like, it depends entirely on which ones you eat... Brazils are completely different to Pecans and Cashews, etc. etc. BB Peter
