Guest guest
I posted recently about trying to find a good plain soy yogurt for my 13 yo daughter. Finally, success! I found the Wildwood Soyogurt " Pleasant Plain " flavor at our local natural foods store. Used it last night to make a tzatziki sauce with cucumbers from the garden - cooked some veggie burgers with garlic and cumin, put it all in a pita with lettuce, tomato and onion and had vegan " gyros. " It was actually pretty good and my daughter declared " it's the best thing you've ever made mom " (though I swear I've made much better meals ;-)) on the flipside I discovered a dish my daughter has ordered many times at a local restaurant, despite have been assured it was free of any animal products, is cooked in chicken broth. She was so disappointed and I was po'd at the restaurant. It is a place that prides itself on organic, sustainable food and usually they are very informed and not weird about food requests. I called and talked to the manager and told her had this been an allergy and their servers don't know what's in their food there could be big consequences. As it is I have a very unhappy little vegan in my household. nancy

There are two Chow restaurants in San Francisco and the one here in Lafayette has been wildly successful. They have an organic produce market, etc. I really love the place (and in their defense the manager did tell me to come back and let them buy us dinner). so we'll see - I scared the waitress off though - she turned our table over to another server. >well..congrats on the soy yogurt >they are based in Santa Cruz i believe... >hope to bacchus they aren't owned by some big meat compnay like >half the otherones...cuz i still buy their organic tofu(after >giving up on whitewave) I was hoping the same thing.
