Guest guest
This is true to some extent - I know supporting these veggie options is good. I guess personally I have a difficult time supporting establishments like BK or McD. It would be like buying a cosmetic that was not tested on animals from a vivisector. Ok, the researcher has one eye shadow that isn't tested but he makes his money (blood money, IMO) from killing thousands. Yes, mainstreaming vegetarian food is great. And yes, even veggie burgers cooked at other restaurants run the risk of soaking up the meat grease from being next to meat burgers. Ald when we buy veggie food in supermarkets, they too sell meat products. It's a catch 22 and I " m not saying there is an answer - just spewing my own opinion and thinking outloud Cheryl --- Jody <alladinjw wrote: > I'm vegan, so likely wouldn't stop at BK. Guest guest
Actually I am of the mind set to not care whether places like BK add vegetarian options or not-they'll only take whatever vegetarian option they offer and turn it into a fat, salt, chemical laden poor substitute for food Sharon Lee On Dec 12, 2006, at 10:06 AM, Jody wrote: > I'm vegan, so likely wouldn't stop at BK. Guest guest
the problem is that fries and all are made with animal lard not vegetable. So yes you maybe having a veggie burger but it is cooked on the same grill as meat. Steph
Guest guest
Look at the ingredient list on the wall at any Burger King. There is no lard in the French fries. now McDonalds is a whole other story. Theirs have the animal fat made into the frozen French fry, so even though they are fried in Vegetable oil, the actually frozen fries at McDonalds is made with animal fat. Most all of the food chains have a dedicated frying oil vat just for french fries. Stores in a mall food court that aren't part of a chain, do not have seperate vats and fry meat in the same oil as the French fries. Most of the Buffet places fry veggies and meat items in the same deep oil vats though, so that is a concern. Burger King Vegeburgers are usually microwaved or put through the bread toaster, that is a rolling wheel toaster. Some that toast their bread on a grill, do it on a separate grill from where meat is cooked and cook the Vegeburgers on the bread toasting grill only. You should always ask at the Burger King you go to, but everyone that I've been in has done it in one of the ways mentioned above. BTW look for that ingredient food chart on the wall beside where you line up to place your food order. Guest guest
I am just relaying the information I read on the PETA website. I have asked the manager at our BK in Vermont he said at this time they don't microwave the veggie burgers there they run them with the other burgers through that grill so I guess it depends on the location. I find it so difficult to know who to trust especially when companies tend to be so dishonest about the way things are made. I am glad where you live that you are safely able to enjoy them. Guest guest
Don't go by one article you have read, this isn't true for all fast fun places, I know that for a fact. BK uses a toaster grill and it's only used for the vegi burgers. I eat there seldom but it's a safe alternative. Taco Bell's bean burrito is also a safe quick fix. Not all places are bad.
