KRAFT GUACAMOLE

Kraft Foods Inc. is being sued for misleading consumers about a

chemical concoction questionably labeled as " guacamole " dip. Although

guacamole has been made for hundreds of years out of avocado, Kraft's

chemical dip features yummy stuff like hydrogenated oils, starch, food

coloring, and other synthetics--with less than 2% of the dip composed

of avocado. According to Claire Regan, vice president of Kraft Foods

corporate affairs, " We think consumers understand that [the guacamole]

isn't made from avocado. "

That stuff is the worst and I see people at work with a container of it

and a bag of chips. I'm going to print this and hand it to them to

read.

I'm guilty of grabbing this for a quick potluck donation. I will never

do it again, if I don't have time to prepare fresh I will grab a jar of

salsa or hummus instead.

Yes, thank you GB for the insight.

Lawanna,

It doesn't bother me what people eat but it is nice you are making a

good choice. Someone also had a recipe recently that used peas

instead of guac so that may be a good sub if you are in a hurry.

Just keep some peas in the freezer. Although nothing beats real

avocados.

first off, i couldnt stop giggling when i read guacamole isnt made with

avacados... what the heck did that person think it was?

Well I love fresh guacamole. Nothing beats the real thing. Im thinking for

the potluck i want to make a good dip with veggies. I will look in the

recipie link for a good, quick and money friendly recipie. Im thinking peas

or hummus dip is probably are the easiest.

Oh I do have a question. My secret santa person at work is a vegan. What I

would like to know is are there any natural bath products that are vegan

safe? Or just what the heck can i get her lol? i have a 15 dollar limit but

i dont care too much if its a little abouve that as most of the people

working at my work have a tendancy to get nice gifts that are thoughtful for

the person recieving it, even when we might not always get along with that

coworker. lol.

I know we both like cats so i may get her a cat calender. Ive managed to get

her before, i cant remember what i got her though lol! Wasnt bath stuff i

dont think.

What a shame! I firmly believe in cooking for yourself (ie you know

what's in there) vs prepared foods or going out to eat. Those are

treats not something to do 5+ times a week. Your health is to

important for that. So what's the other 98%, I wonder?

At least some peas in it would help lower the fat content. That might

be a good thing.

" We think consumers understand that [the guacamole]

> isn't made from avocado. " - Well, of course we understand. Why on

earth would anyone want to eat a healthy avocado? Main-stream America

would feel misled if you actually wanted to feed us something that

might be good for us, and it wasn't on the " health food aisle " or in

Whole Foods. Sorry, let me wipe some of the sarcism off my keyboard :)

Ok, I feel better now. I just get so aggravated at corporations,

society, and commercialization. I have been vegetarian not long

(since summer), but even before I was VERY conscious of what I buy for

my 5 year old and husband. Even if it says " healthy, whole grain " ,

you never know unless you read the fine print, and don't even get me

started on the cereal and snack aisle. Knowing I am feeding my family

healthy is a small consolation for those fits my child throws when I

explain why we can't get the " scooby fruit rollups " , or " Dora the

Explorer yogurt " . I've finally accepted that while my child is with

me, it is my responsibility to raise her according to my beliefs and

faith (which includes what you put in your body), and pray she will

keep it with her when she is on her own, be it at a friend's house

playdate or in college away from me.
