Guest guest
Does anyone have any traditions for the main course for Christmas? We normally do tofurky but none of us really enjoy eating it so the meal itself is not very enjoyable. I did look through the file recipes but would love to hear favorites as well. I can't tell you all how thrilled I am to have found this group.

Guest guest
what is Quarn? Is there a recipe or can I buy it somewhere. The only thing is I live in Vermont and the options besides Toferky are few. Thanks Steph
Guest guest
It is not so much as missing meat because I actually don't I just want to make sure the kids and my hubby gets a complete meal with protein that's all. I think what someone said about having a theme dinner would be wonderful and also the idea about veggies around the world. A new tradition I guess is what I was really looking forward to and also a meal the family will really enjoy. Our 10 year old wants to eat meat especially fast food so I want to make the most delicious meals possible so the adjustment isn't so hard. Guest guest
I'm going to make the stuffing my grandmother makes for Thanksgiving. Since I got her to give me the recipe (I nearly had to beat it out of her) I can make it whenever I want. If you would like the recipe let me know. It's not vegan, if that's a concern. It's my very favorite food in the world. I think I'm also going to take a stab at making bread of some sort. I'm not sure what kind yet. I'll go through the recipe files and find something good. I'm also going to make some chocolate covered strawberries. I dip them first in white chocolate, then milk chocolate, then dark chocolate, letting them cool between layers. They're to die for!! My mom has visited a certain candy shop and bought some white grapes dipped in white chocolate. She says those are awfully good so I might try those as well. What else? Ooh, I'll have to try making a better pie. The one I made at Thanksgiving was a flop and we ended up splitting it amongst the dogs and rats and mice and hamster. Pecan pie, perhaps? I've got all day to think about it, then tomorrow we shop!!! Kadee Sedtal Build a man a fire and he'll stay warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll stay warm the rest of his life. Guest guest
Are you familiar with Quinoa? (Keen-wah) It is a grain that is a complete protein and cooks quickly. You could use it as a base for a casserole..for example with lentils or split peas, celery. carrots, onion, garlic..whatever floats your boat. Guest guest
Well, it is about the same type of thing for Christmas and thanksgiving right? Here are some of the main dishes I have made for both or either: -Baked molded Nut/grain loaves (similar to meatloaf but veggie) with a nice wine mushroom sauce. -Stuffed miniature pumpkins (the last time I used a southwestern stuffing, mostly corn bread, spices, veggies and nuts, I actually used roasted pumpkin seeds, it was cute) - vegan paella - a nice chicago style stuffed pizza (vegetarian of course) - this last thanksgiving I made pumpkin and artichoke raviolis (two different types of raviolis) for the main dish, they were yummy.....used the wonton wrappers as the ravioli pasta and baked them insted of boiling them. - " Dirty vegan rice " , using red, brown and black rice, vegetables, Yves veggie gound round, spices, and roasted hazelnuts.... ..............OK, I have been lurking, so i should introduce myself, I am Cabrita AKA Rosa, live in southern California and I have been interested in vegetarian/vegan cooking for about 25 years, I love cooking....vegetarian fusion style best describes it I guess.... If anyone would like more detailed recipes for the above just give a shout and I will post later....
Guest guest
If your looking for a great tasting non-vegan vut vegitarian 'turkey' ... try the brand call Quorn. .... Quorm Roast I went to my health food store today specifically for their opinions. By pure cooincidence .. luck ... yesterday was their monthly 'lunch tasting day'. Theu had served this as one of the samples and had leftovers in the frige. It tasted great. I had had Quorn's chicken nuggets before and liked them ... they are an ocassional cheat from my " almost " vegan. Ths is as comparison survey I just found on the web... accidently as I was just looking for the spelling... http://answers./question/index?qid=20060821082220AAQoRSo - " greatyoga " <greatyoga Thursday, December 14, 2006 3:23 PM Re: Christmas Meal ideas > Lynn > > I don't celebrate Christmas since it is not a religious holiday for > me. Guest guest
My daughter and I like some of the quorn products but not the roast however we do like the tofurkey but not the stuffing. We always cut into it and take the stuffing out and stuff it with something else. This year my husband (non veg) and my daughter stuffed it I thinkg with onions and garlic. We do something different to it every year. g lhasaluvr Thu, 14 Dec 2006 9:23 AM Re: Christmas Meal ideas We had tofurkey last year and hated it. Guest guest
For Thanksgiving it's always a traditional meal without the Mr. T bird. Now for Christmas and New Years we always try out new recipes with some of our old favorites too and make it more of a potluck and lots of ethnic side dishes also.
