I simmer my spaghetti sauce on top of the stove for at least six hours. It really depends on the flavor you want to achieve. I don't care for " raw " tasting sauce and cooking for all those hours really gives the flavors (onions, garlic, herbs, red wine) a chance to blend. At the six hour mark it finally tastes right to me. It's just a matter of personal preference. TM
Guest guest
This does sound great, but I have one question. Since the main ingredients (tomoatoes, tomato paste) are all already cooked, what is the purpose of the long slow " cooking " time in the crock pot? I'm sort of a newbie at all this, so excuse the question if its too basic. thnx. Guest guest
I didn't notice that the list of ingredients omitted the oregano. So at the end I added 1/2 tspn. Seemed to turn out alright, but was pretty salty. I think the next time I would try it without the seasoned salt (I used Lowry's). Also, I didn't have any fresh parsley, so I used dried. Guest guest
Jim I may be wrong about this but i believe Lowry's seasoning salt is mostly MSG. If so you may want to reconsider using it because of it's health effects. Some people do not like to use it because of it's effects and some don't care. Just thought you would like to know. Guest guest
Thnaks for the info. I wonder what type of " seasoned salt " the recipe writer had in mind? - " Guru K " <greatyoga Saturday, December 30, 2006 4:50 PM Re: Crockpot Marinara Sauce 2 > Jim > > I may be wrong about this but i believe Lowry's seasoning salt is > mostly MSG. Guest guest
Ok....Lawry's Seasoned Salt has NO MSG. Big blurb on the front advertising as such. There IS: salt, sugar, spices including paprika & turmeric, onion, cornstarch, garlic, tricalcium phosphate(prevents caking), paprika oleoresin(for color) and natural flavor.
