Hi,

if you wash the rice till water runs clear, then soak it overnight in plenty

of water it will cook much faster

It takes a long time....at least 40 mins, but it's a nuisance. I have a

microwave rice cooker that works pretty well, but even that takes forever. I've

now resorted to Uncle Ben's " Fast & Natural whole grain instant brown rice. " I

do it in the microwave and it takes about ten minutes or so. I've never been

a fan of instant rice, but this works!

I generally steam all my rice. Brown rice is about 45 min, but well worth

the wait

I will also sometome put to on the bottom of a glass baking dish, add dole's

peach mango orange juce to level with the rice thenwater above it... layer

above that a mix of sliced carrots, sliced parsnips, the bases (stem portion

as opposed to the heads) of the broccali cross sliced, .. finger crushed

Thai (Asian/Japanese) Basil and a bit of curry , , diced.chopped prik kee

noo Thai (Asian) Chili .. and slices of a ripe plantain ,, (the vegie mix

will vary each time). then bake it for about 1 hr. ... I check the water

level after about 35 to 40 min .. adding if needed

Makes a great one dish dinner over TV.

You can also take and " dextronize " your brown rice. Just heat it in a frying

pan, with no oil, or Pam, until it browns. It will have kind of a nutty aroma

to it. I use my cast iron frying pan, and stand there and stir it while it

dextronizes. I think this is similar to something like Uncle Ben's quick

cooking brown rice. And it does cook quicker. Off hand, I don't know the time

frame.

Also, Basmatti brown rice cooks in about 30 minutes. My husband loves the

Basmatti, but doesn't like the aroma of it when it cooks. So, I try to cook it

while he is gone somewhere. LOL. I am sneaky sometimes.
