Guest guest
heard that on the news last nite.. dang shame we americans cant control this Im not a full fledge vegetarian, i still eat fish, chicken and turkey, but if this keeps up, im sure there will be a lot more people becoming vegetarians out there. Becky ---- Douglas Anderson 12/29/2006 7:40:20 AM Have you heard about this? It is scandalous Apparently cloned meat will soon be available in the shops. And the consumer will NOT be given the choice of purchasing cloned meat or not as it is likely that the products will not be labeled. Boy am I glad that I am a vegetarian. I should become a vegan as it will also affect none-meat animal products such as milk. Guest guest
I heard that today & it is the scariest thing I've heard yet. I can't believe it won't be labeled. I may well just become a full fledged vegetarian soon. A smidge OT...what do you all do with the recipes here (besides cook them up!)? I receive posts as emails & send the recipes I like to a 'recipe' folder. I was going to print them all but ummm...I have about 500 in there. My printed recipes are taking over my house. Any genious ideas for paper/recipe control? Beth Douglas Anderson <djandersonza wrote: Apparently cloned meat will soon be available in the shops. Guest guest
First off, I am a vegetarian so this issue will not be directly affecting me. I have not been following this but what I understand is that cloning is parallel to in vitro fertilization - making a cow / baby in a petri dish. They are making cows just as infertile couples (thankfully!) can make babies. - Beth Renzetti Friday, December 29, 2006 1:58 PM Re: Have you heard about this? Guest guest
One wonders if they could label it as organic, however. Would it be considered genetically modified? One would think so and perhaps buying organic would be a way to avoid cloned meat products. Not to mention, avoid altogether by going veg. Guest guest
Well, what I did was have a folder on my computer where I put the really interesting recipes. Otherwise I use the search option on this group. It allows you to search for the various recipes based on ingredients. Another option would be to make a note of the message number ad say a short description. Then you can simply look it up in the message section of the group when you do want to refer back to that recipe
Guest guest
I don't know which makes me queasier: the idea of people eating a cloned animal or the fact that yet again we lose/give up more control over our food. If there wasn't something wrong with it, they wouldn't be so opposed to labelling it. Peace, Diane , Douglas Anderson <djandersonza wrote: > > It is a little short sited to think that simply because one is a vegetarian that it will have no effect on you. Unless you are a vegan, animal products that you consume, cheese and milk could well be products of cloning. And what about choice? Genetically modified food are already on the shelves. And if this does go through people wil be given even less choice about the food that they consume.
Guest guest
People don't have to worry about this for awhile. Right now it is simply way too expensive to make clones. Guest guest
Arnt a lot of vegstables " cloned " all ready? Splicing a tree and growing the sprig into a new plant. The original sprig is still an exact copy of the parent plant. Same with wheats, apples, strawberries, bananas and i think cheries too. For me the choice of removing meats is more for all the chemical pestisides and preservitives they pump into the meat. Chantelle -- " Reality leaves a lot to the imagination. " - John Lennon Faith, no matter what we believe in is an important motivator in life. There are reasons why something is the way it is, though we dont always know why. Problems are never a way to punish us, sometimes they are a way of making us better and stronger, more compasionate and knowlegable people inside. We may worry, we may feel down on the world but we must always remember that faith is what brings us together and that god, no matter what we call him or her has not punnished us, only trusted us with an extra special gift. ~ Me
