Does anyone have the cookbook Vegan Lunchbox? I look online at her

blog she makes the most beautiful lunches for her son but they just

dont seem practical. My kids would never eat radishes and sushi. Maybe

she raised her kid from birth vegan so he has grew up with these

things (lucky kiddo). Anyhow I would love to get the cookbook but dont

want to invest the money if the recipes are tricky or just plain

nothing my kids will enjoy. Thanks for your input. Her web site it

veganlunchbox.com if anyone would like to be blown away by beautiful

well balanced lunches.

When my baby is older I definitely plan to get this cookbook. I love

her blog and go there often just for my own inspiration on what to

eat (though we're not vegan).

One thing I'm trying to do is introduce foods to Juniper (10 months)

that perhaps we normally wouldn't eat. They say you have to try

something up to 10 times before you may like it. Have you ever tried

to give radishes to your children? If you haven't, then how do you

know they wouldn't like them, try it and see, buy the mild ones and

serve with cheese (make little sandwiches out of the slices). Also,

sushi isn't raw fish (that's sashimi), it's rice rolled up with things

inside, and you don't have to have the seaweed sheet on the outside.

Instead use sesame seeds and use avocado, carrot and cucumber for the

filling.

She posts many of her recipes on her blog, so before investing in her

cookbook, just keep reading her blog and trying out some recipes. An

idea I saw on Super Nanny was to call broccoli " trees " for those kids

who don't like broccoli. Sometimes just changing the name will make a

difference. Another cookbook idea would be First Meals by Annabel

Karmel. She's got great ideas on how to " dress " up the food to make it

fun and edible!

thanks for the tips. Yeah since we became a vegetarian three years ago the kids

have had a lot of different things on their plates most veggies are okay

otherwise if it doesn't look like the typical American diet white flour, sugar

and pizza they wont eat it. My five year old asks me to read off the ingredients

to make sure no animal is in the food. He is actually one of the reasons we

became veggie since at the age of 3 he knew animals were used for meat and

refused to eat. Anyhow long story short I look forward to reading others

comments about what to pack for lunches because PB & J is getting old.lol

People are often amazed at what my kids will eat. What they won't, too

(american cheese, ice cream with 'stuff' in it, mushrooms). I've always tried

everything with them and they have come up with recipes of their own too. 'Feed

me I'm Yours' and 'The Mother's Almanac' are great books for fun ideas and

foods you might not think of trying. AmyF

use tupperware as much as possible both my kids are in elementary school

without access to a microwave.

Lots of good ideas posted. My daughter doesn't like warm spaghetti or cheese

ravioli, so she takes that in tupperware often. Chips, shredded cheese, and

salsa. Trail mix. Whole foods was sampling a faux tuna salad and a vegan faux

chicken salad today, they were both good. What about an antipasto type dish?

A nice piece of foccacia, some cheeses & olives, and veggies?

Steph:

Check out the library they may have it.

Also my daughter has been vegetarian since she was in 1st grade, sometimes

she would do pb & j, or peanut butter and banana or peanut butter and apple

sandwiches.

Sometimes all she would take for lunch would be salsa and tortilla chips or

veggies and dip. Not the best of lunches but once in a while is not the end

of the world.
