New veggie

Hi

As of tommorrow, when I shop, I want to be veggie. I've tried several

times over the years, and will keep trying until I get there.

Can anyone recommend some good books on vegetarian/vegan nutrition,

and also on raising children without meat, as DH feels that our 9yo

needs meat for protein. I know that's not true, but I'd like to let

him have some things to read so he can find out for himself. She

could easily switch to a vegetarian diet, since she's not one bit

picky and generally eats whatever we put in front of her.

We're currently alternating between meat and vegetarian meals and I

want to go all the way. It would be much easier to just not have meat

in the house.

When I first started to eat vegetarian I went to the library and checked out

some cookbooks. The first one I read was Laurals Kitchen, it had a lot of great

information in it.

I also recommend getting vegetarian cookbooks from the library and trying some

of the recipes before you buy the book.

Just starting out, I'd highly suggest using recipes from this group and going to

the library and checking books out. I find that although I'm willing to combine

familiar foods in new and different ways, trying something totally new doesn't

come easily (for my framily either). Therefore I only get a dozen or so recipes

out of a book and it makes more sense to get them from the library.

Oh, Debbie, don't tell my daughter. I still am buying books and she is

threatening to sell all my cookbooks on ebay. But I love the books...the

pictures are really beautiful and so is the food.

Oh but you see I had an ulterior motive. If I saved money on cookbooks, I

could reason that I could swing a notebook computer and with wireless connection

can access internet and this group while sitting with my family in the family

room watching TV.
