Guest guest
Hello everyone ! As a usual lurker, I've come out of my shell today to ask everyone how they deal with their drinking water. As far as I'm concerned, I am tired of the expense and lugging home bottled water. Also, can't some of the chemicals in the plastic bottles leach out into the water ? I have no idea which purifying systems are best within a tight budget. My next concern would be water we shower with. We do absorb some of the tainted tap water. Thanks in advance, Denise from Maine
Guest guest
Denise I don't know about budget... I have my entire house on a reverse osmosis system. There is and additional reverse filter system on the kitchen sink for a drinking water tap. This system is suposed to be cleaner than any form you can get, bottled or otherwise ... I am not sure about going to a glacier and getting that ... but then, there is the container needed and the trip every day (hahaha) - " Denise " <maine_vegan Tuesday, January 09, 2007 12:23 PM Question of the week ??? > Hello everyone ! Guest guest
we have a reverse osmosis system under the sink for kitchen drinking water. It is well worth it as far as I'm concerned. A little maintenanece as far as cleaning system and changing a filter. In the past I have used one of those Britta refrigerator filter pitchers and they worked great for basic level of filtering. I think that the plastic bottles have been determined " safe " for single use. It's once they are opened and people try to reuse them or put them throught a dishwasher that they leach into the water. As far as shower water, we do not have any filtering, but I would think that, yes, we can absorb some of the chemicals in that water. We just haven't taken the step to add filters to the showers. , " Denise " <maine_vegan wrote: > > Hello everyone ! Guest guest
Denise, I have water delivered to my house and have a bubbler system costs me about 20 dollars a month but well worth it since our water gives me sore throat
Guest guest
We have bottled water delivered on a monthly basis. I'm not sure how it breaks down in cost (though I should), but it seems in the long run it's cheaper and certainly less hassle than using brita filters or attaching different filters to our faucet. And, we drink more water this way, which is definitely a good thing. I haven't thought about the washing issue... peace and blessings, ben On 1/9/07, Beth Renzetti <elmothree2000 wrote: > > Denise from where in Maine? we use a Brita filter kept in the fridge & > are you someplace where you can dig a well? > Beth from Dover-Foxcroft > > Denise <maine_vegan <maine_vegan%40>> wrote: > Hello everyone ! Guest guest
Just a naive thought. If the dreaded plastic bottles leached into their contents why would the damn things last for eons in our oceans and kill marine life? , " Alyssia " <deechun_sa_ngop wrote: > > Denise > > I don't know about budget... > > I have my entire house on a reverse osmosis system. Guest guest
They do last ... and they do kill .... slowly .... we are killing the ocean more & more every hour. When we destroy the plankton to it's " critical level " , animal life on land ends. I is that simple. Even if we never cut another tree in our temprate climax vegitation forests or in the rain forests, with out the oxygen the plankton supplies the atmosphere, we can not live. - " james singer " <islandjim1 Tuesday, January 09, 2007 2:22 PM Re: Question of the week ??? > Just a naive thought. Guest guest
We have a Brita pitcher in our fridge for drinking (and coffee and tea) water. I confess, I use tap water for most cooking and don't notice a big difference, even though I DO notice it when I'm drinking it " straight. " I can tell you homebrewers don't like to store stuff long- term in plastic bottles because they let gas (like oxygen) through, which can cause off- flavors. Our shower water sometimes smells a bit like fish to me, especially in the summer. I've been told it is algaecide added a few reservoirs " uphill " from me. In the Boston area, most of us get our drinking water from a huge reservoir in the middle of the state, pumped through aqueducts and intermediate reservoirs and such. It seems to be perfectly safe water, but every so often it does have a bit of an, um, aroma? -ginger north of Boston who should be drinking her water right now :-) , " Denise " <maine_vegan wrote: > > Hello everyone !
