OT: veg dog chews?

I know there's a lot of dog lovers on this list and I'm hoping to tap into your

collective knowledge. I need a chew toy for my 82 pound lab mix that has no

rawhide (it gives him unbelievable diarhea) but can keep him busy chewing for

more than 20 minutes. I know pigs ears are supposed to be great but there is no

way in the world I could bring myself to purchase these. Any ideas?

when I had dogs, they loved the large ropes-- looks like bone shaped with

knots on each end. They also make ones with rubber " toys " attached to the

ropes, with textures that are supposedly good for the teeth.

Get him a large sized Kong and fill it with cheese and freeze it or with

peanut butter.

We saw those at Petsmart and at Wal-Mart just last week and considered

purchasing them, but didn't.

Katie,

I have not tried this yet for our dogs. You can buy a

rubber " kong " . They have a hole inn the middle. Stuff it with

peanut butter and freeze it. The dog will keep chewing even though

they won't be able to get out all of the p butter. we have non

sporting dogs and I was thinking of trying this so they would catch

and fetch it. If I throw them a ball, they just look at it.

It doesn't bother me. Sometimes two of the same type of posts are good!!!

At least you love Kongs, too!!! Mine get them all the time. My freezer

always has plenty of them in it!!! Great exercise for their teeth!!

I have never heard of the Kongs, so I looked it up on the internet. Thanks for

making us aware of these.

The review and suggestions are also helpful.

The dogs just love them, and when frozen, they can keep a dog chewing and

licking them for 3 hours or more. They are fun. My freezer is full of them

for my crew.

He loves greenies but he tears through them in no time at all. We do have a

large kong for him but up until now I've only put the kong cookies into it. I

never tried freezing peanut butter. That sounds like a good idea.

I fill the hole!!! Most often with both cheese and peanut butter. The more

in it, the longer to clean it. If you have a Big Lots, they have Kong

look-alikes that are really much cheaper!!

Marilyn,

When you put peanut butter in the kong, how much do you put in? Do you

fill the entire hole?

Thanks for the info, three hours busy chewing sounds phenominal!
