Now there's a step in the right direction. He may

eventually get tired of buying the meat and having to

cook it so I have a feeling he will eat your cooked

meals more often than not. I sure hope so but if he

doesn't that's OK you do with's best for you. It will

all work out.

And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply

So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why

He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do

So I took off my hat I said imagine that, huh, me working for you.

HI Dena:

I have been a vegetarian for 15 years, and married for 24 years, my husband has

no interest in being a vegetarian although he supports my choice. Occasionally

I will be his meat when I am at the store but it is rare and he usually doesn't

ask me to. I also do not cook the meat he does.

My daughter has chosen to be vegetarian my son is not.

Hi Gayle. It's encouraging to know that a " mixed " marriage can work out just

fine. It's nice to meet you. :)

HI Dena:

Nice to meet you.

They can I am lucky that my husband cooks. Since he gets home from work 45

minutes or so before I do many nights he starts dinner. A lot of times he

makes the both his and mine. He usually wants meat with every dinner.

The key is not to force your choice on them.

My daughter decided to stop eating meat when she was 5 about a year after I

stopped.

Good luck

Gayle

Here is a recipe that my non veg husband eats.

Tamale Pie

Group 1

2 cups cooked pinto or kidney beans

2 TBS oil

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp salt

1 TBS tomato paste

3 TBS water

1/4 cup sliced ripe olives

1/2 cup green pepper chopped

1/4 cuo chopped parsley

1/2 cup chopped celery

Group 2

2 1/2 cups cold water

1 1/2 cups cornmeal

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/4 cup grated cheddar ( or more if desired)

Mash the beans. Mix tomato paste with water. In a skillet saute onion in

oil and combine all group 1 ingredients. Let those cook over medium heat;

if

the beans were hot to begin with, more then 5 minutes cooking is needed.

Keep stirring the mixture since beans tent to stick to the pan. Adjust

seasoning to taste.

Combine the ingredients of group 2 except for the cheese in a heavy pan,

and

cook over medium heat until cornmeal thickens and comes to a boil. You

have

to stir this constantly or the cornmeal will stick.

Grease an 8 X 8 inch pan and spread 2/3 of the cornmeal mixture over the

bottom and sides; then pour the bean mixture into this cornmeal crust and

spread

the remaining 1/3 of the cornmeal on the top. Sprinkle the top crust with

the grated cheddar cheese and cook in a 350 degree for 30 minutes.

I don't remember which cookbook I found this in, however this was something

I started making when I first went veg.

Thanks for the Tamale Pie recipe. Sounds like nothing I've heard of before.

I'll have to try it.

You would not believe how well it can work as long as

the vegetarian isn't going to insist on converting the

meat eater and as long as the meat eater is going to

respect your new choice. Everything just falls into

place. Over 26 years ago My Mother and myself were

the only 2 vegetarians and now the entire family is

vegetarian except one nephew living out of state and

from what his wife tells me he's really cut down and

even eats veggies now and enjoys them.

I became a vegetarian 2 years ago. I told my dh of 20 years and he

was horrified. He said I could cook and he would eat, one meatless

meal a week. I made eggplant parmesan the first night and converted

him. I cook only vegetarian and he eats it willingly and

enthusiasticly, but when away from home he eats what he likes.

When we go out to eat he will sit there next to me eating his steak

and always offers me some knowing I won't take it. I just enjoy my

vegetarian fare.

Mixed amarriages can and do work, but it really helps if you are a

creative cook. My dh loves the variety of vegetarian dishes and

enjoys the new and different things I use, like eggplant, that I

never used before.
