Guest guest
Can anyone recommend a good vegetable, no msg, seasoning? Everyone I have seen has msg. Also, anyone want to share their favorite flavorings? I am kinda in a rut, so I am looking to experiment. Thanks,

Guest guest
What are you looking for? A hot or mild type of seasoning? I know we have quite a few mixes in the files. I have one I use calle Jamaica Me Crazy, it's a blend of garlic, salt, pepper and a few mild spices. I find it at the market. I use Mrs. dash and I make my own " herbs de provence " up from the recipe in the files, I add it to soups, roasted veggies, etc. Here's the link to Jamaica Me Crazy: http://www.johnnysfinefoods.com/product.aspx?variantid=69 & catid=5 Hope this helps you, Donna --- lifeisgood111301 <shelly wrote: > Can anyone recommend a good vegetable, no msg, > seasoning? Guest guest
My hospital survival kit (which I keep packed at all times now) contains several mini bottles of Maggi seasoning. They make some stuff with animal products in it but this one has water, salt, wheat gluten, wheat, sugar, wheat bran, acetic acid, caramel color, artificial flavoring, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, dextrose and yeast. One of the seasonings I use at home is Bulgogi sauce (Korean bbq sauce) BUT it is unbelievably hard to find without animal in it. Did a stir fry of pressed tofu marinated in it and no one realized it wasn't chicken. Heh. Chili oil (be sparing, it is not mild), can add ziiiiiiiiiiiing (again, sparingly use.) Not a seasoning but a veggie...have you tried Kimchee? (Korean pickled cabbage that is hotter than heeeeeeeeeelllllll but if your body can handle hot and you like hot, it is a thought.) I would have included Goya's ham seasoning (no ham) but it has msg in it. I am reeeeeeally sensitive to msg but the tiny bit I add to greens has never given me reason to run to the little room and say my mantra of " oh why did I eat that " for several hours accompanied by much groaning and general kvetching. I do a lot of online shopping at http://www.asiamex.com/ They have canned beans, bulk beans, peas, legumes, 29 kinds of rice, spices, roasted sushi nori sheets and lots of other interesting things., including 3 different types of vegetarian boullion. They used to send me a stuffed exotic animal with each order but haven't lately, sigh. The last one they sent was a yellow octopus with blue dots that my dog Ursula claimed as her own. Guest guest
Just a thought about what kind of herbs and spices you might add to veges...that don't have msg for sure. All I can say is that you can think of salt and how it tastes on veges, then sugar...like carrots, for sure...then garlic in some but not in sweet potatoes for sure. I could only think of this many because you can use so many in spinach that I can't even think of them all. And, it is my favorite vege. When you discover something terrific, write in down. Keep your list sorta organized. Think of like tasting things...rutabegas and turnips and parsnips are all akin and probably can use the same. I have to hit the hay!!! Yes, I am that old! Happy week-end and cooking. Luanne

That said, we do sometimes use Spike, which has no salt or msg but does include nutritional yeast and adds a slight savory flavor. And yes, I'll put hot sauce on just about anything... peace and blessings, ben
