Guest guest
I tried some chick peas the other day for the first time. not the ones in the can, I boiled them a few hours, with some olive oil, no- salt and some ground pepper.. when they were done.. they had no flavor at all. So i found a recipe for some chick pea burgers. I mashed my chick peas, added 1 carrot chopped, onion, flower, It called for celery, i didnt have any, some oil, salt and pepper to taste, oh and some flour. I fried them in olive oil and still no flavor to them. I could get use to eating these, but i need some flavor in them. I have high cholesterol and have to watch my sodium, Can some one tell me how to give these some great flavor? Thanks, Becky
Guest guest
I usually add cumin and coriander to chickpea recipes and some freshly squeezed lemon. Have you tried any of these herb and spice blends - Mrs Dash or Spike? I don't know if they have salt in them. I have a harissa spice mill which adds flavour to the blandest of meals but I'm in the UK, so I don't know what you have available over there. I usually cook chickpeas and beans in a sauce. Guest guest
If you cooked them until they were tender, chances are you over-cooked them. Properly cooked, they have a wonderful nutty flavor. , " becky " <pbecky1959 wrote: > > I tried some chick peas the other day for the first time. > > not the ones in the can, I boiled them a few hours, with some olive oil, > no- salt and some > > ground pepper.. when they were done.. they had no flavor at all. > > So i found a recipe for some chick pea burgers. > > I mashed my chick peas, added 1 carrot chopped, onion, flower, > > It called for celery, i didnt have any, some oil, salt and pepper to taste, > oh and some flour. > > I fried them in olive oil and still no flavor to them. > > I could get use to eating these, but i need some flavor in them. > > I have high cholesterol and have to watch my sodium, > > Can some one tell me how to give these some great flavor? > > > Thanks, > > Becky > > >
Guest guest
I like them too. I usually just boil with onions, little cumin and garlic. I use them in my hummus and salads, I don't usually eat them alone but I will. [...snip...] The Mrs. Dash line of spice blends does not: http://www.mrsdash.com The Spike you have to check the label. They do offer a salt-free one, but not all. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog
Guest guest
Chick peas that need taste...how about garlic? how about celery salt? or celery that has been dried or maybe a little tahani in with the chick peas? They are really good when seasoned. Try some hummous or hummus if you live anywhere near some mid-easterners. Or, I can send you a real recipe if you want. Guest guest
Yumyum yes they do. Try some curry paste, or even just a little sprinkle of some curry powder. For a rich dish, add some coconut milk too to whatever thickness you like, just a little bit like a dressing or a whole lot like a soup. Peace, Diane In my experience, chickpeas go very well with anything even remotely curry. > > peace and blessings, > ben >

Guest guest
When I cook beans, I add celery, carrots, onions, peppers - sweet & hot. They come out yummy. I skip the oil & season the final dish. Keep experimenting & you'll find what works best for your tastes! Beth becky <pbecky1959 wrote: I tried some chick peas the other day for the first time.
