Guest guest
I have that cookbook. There are some very good recipes in it. We love the Ceasar(all vegetarian and vegan) salad dressing recipe in especially. That is a great one. I'll send that recipe to the list. I think you'd really like this cookbook. Guest guest
Thanks Judy. I will buy the book. I thought I should ask first because I have seen bad reviews of her " UnCheese " books. The Ceazar looks really good, thanks for posting it April , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: I have that cookbook. There are some very good recipes in it. Guest guest
You're welcome. I don't have her Uncheese book. We love that Caesars Salad dressing. It is so good. If you eat Parmasean cheese, that is good sprinkled on this salad too. Judy - April Monday, January 29, 2007 9:33 PM Re: Anyone have The Nutritional Yeast Cookbook ? Thanks Judy. I will buy the book. Guest guest
Hi Katie, I have only been using it for a couple weeks but I really like it. Most of the time I put it on stuff (bagels, cottage cheese, rice, pasta, veggies, etc.) I did make a gravy with it that tasted really good, kinda chickeny but good. The gravy recipe is post # 38793 I liked it the best on cottage cheese with bacon bits and sunflower seeds YUM! Don't give up on it yet, I'm sure you will find something to make with it April , Katie M <cozycate wrote: I have a bag of the stuff and am going to toss it. Guest guest
You have me really craving a ceasar salad now! Its hard finding an anchovy free bottled dressing. I need to buy some tahini asap so I can make it How long can it be kept in the fridge? (it probably wont last long enough to go bad.....but though I should ask) I bet it would be good with feta too I can't wait to make it! April , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: You're welcome. Guest guest
I don't know how long it will last, since this doesn't make that much and our family of 4 usually has it gone at one meal. I've never found a bottled Caesar Salad Dressing(without anchovies, I've always been a vegetarian) that I liked. This recipe is good, but very garlicy, so eat when you're around folks who are also enjoying it. Smile. Feta would probably also be good sprinkled on this salad, but I just always add the parmasean cheese. In that cookbook, she has a vegan option for using instead of a cheese on top. I haven't tried it, because I am not familiar with the nori sheets she is talking about. Judy - April Monday, January 29, 2007 10:16 PM Re: Anyone have The Nutritional Yeast Cookbook ? Guest guest
I have never tried nori (or any seaweed) My dad likes dried dulce but when I look at it I just think yuck! I should try it some time....later.....much later.... I will probably be the only one eating it so I might need some breathmints. LOL My dads not a salad guy. I have a hard time getting him to eat what I make. I mostly get comments like " its ok " or " its better than that other stuff you made " April , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: I don't know how long it will last, since this doesn't make that much and our family of 4 usually has it gone at one meal. Guest guest
Hi April, Fish food! ) I don't have The Nutritional Yeast Cookbook, but I have a few of Joanne Stepaniak's other cookbooks and they're usually the first place I look when I want comfort food that feels like the good parts of being a kid. Here's a link to one of her recipes using nutritional yeast in case that helps you decide if it's something you'd like: http://agrecipes.blogspot.com/ (It's the Dec 8 entry) Hope this helps! Peace, Maureen PS Hey, if you buy it and don't like it, maybe we could figure out a swap? April wrote: > I have recently tried nutritional yeast and have been > searching the web for more recipes. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, Yes, I love my " Fish Food " Yesterday I searched Froogle for nutritional yeast flakes and some items it found were actual fish food! LOL How funny! Thanks for the recipe. It looks yummy and I already have tahini on my shopping list (to make Judy's Ceasar Dressing) so I will try this too Last night I dreamed I had the tahini and didn't have to wait to make the dressing! Thanks, April , Maureen <ailanthus wrote: > > Hi April, > > Fish food! ) I don't have The Nutritional Yeast Cookbook, but I have a > few of Joanne Stepaniak's other cookbooks and they're usually the first > place I look when I want comfort food that feels like the good parts of > being a kid. Guest guest
Hi April, I have had a jar of nutritional yeast in my cupboard since I first joined this list - about a year ago. :-) Now that I'm going vegan (for health reasons) I'm using it more and more. Last weekend I made this " green on green " soup with it, though I didn't blend my soup and I used an orange sweet potato so my soup was orange, not green: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/01/green-on-green-soup.html It uses 3 Tblsp of nutritional yeast. I used kale and spinach as my greens and I used about a cup of green and yellow split peas (rather than a half cup). Very yummy! Even my kids loved it, though I figured it was all for me. :-) I plan to look into this Nutritional Yeast cookbook when I have some spare cash. Guest guest
Thanks for the recipe Sharon My nutritional yeast won't last that long. I bought about 3 cups of it 2 weeks ago and its almost gone, I need to buy more! Guest guest
oh and try the " Chicken " Seasoning recipe with your Nutritional Yeast Flakes. It is in the Recipe files here under Mixes and How to Make Substitutes and then go into the Spice Mixes & Rubs Folder. Here is a copy of it though. A friend shared this recipe with me. It is so cheap and easy to make. I use it in everything. I store it in a Small Pizza Sauce Jar, that I cleaned out and to reuse after the Pizza Sauce was gone. " Chicken Seasoning " 1 1/3 c. Nutrititional Yeast Flakes 3 T. Onion Powder 2 1/2 t. Garlic Powder 2 1/2 t. Salt 2 T. Parsley 1/2 t. Celery Salt 2 T. Italian Seasoning 1 t. Tumeric Mix together and store in a ziplock bag for use in recipes that call for Chicken Seasoning. It is good in Soups, breading meal, Rice caseroles, and for use in making Scrambled Egg Tofu. Guest guest
Hi April, That's hilarious about fish food in Froogle's listings! Thanks for the laugh I just realized that, without knowing why it looked so " right " there, I'd been keeping my nutritional yeast in one of those old-fashioned, big, glass shakers (the kind diners sometimes use for sugar). I kept thinking, " This is silly. It doesn't even pour out the little opening very well, " but yet it looked so at home in its shaker bottle ) I hope you enjoy all the new recipes! Peace, Maureen PS I dream about cooking, too, especially when there's something I'm excited about trying April wrote: > Hi Maureen, > > Yes, I love my " Fish Food " Yesterday I searched > Froogle for nutritional yeast flakes and some items > it found were actual fish food!
