Hey Christine! I'm a fellow parrot lover as well! I'm not a diehard veggie

but used to be. I'm working my way back. I have a 13 yo DD that is veggie and

has been since she was 7.

Hi Robin, what is a DD? Been racking my brain and cannot decipher.

We have meat eating men in the house that are willing to eat veggie most of

the time but don't want to give it up totally. Sometimes I surcome and

nibble.

We own 18 parrots. From Budgies to a Catalina Macaw.

I have 2 budgies, 2 Orange Winged Zons, 3 Love Birds, 1 WB Caique and 1

Congo African Grey. Don't think I've ever seen a Catalina Macaw.

I feed my birds Mike's Mash & Beak Appetit for their main staple diets. I

then offer a variety through the week depending on what we eat. I also offer

Higgins Mayan Harvest Gourmet Diets.

I've heard that Higgins is an excellent food. They use Higgins at the Rare

Species Conservancy for their Caiques and other parrots.

if you want to

see some wonderful photos and read about their conservation efforts.

I've owned parrots for over 20 years. I simply love birds. I enjoy wild

birds as well. I always make suer I offer the wilds ones goodies.

Birdie Bread being another treat I give. I make corn bread but throw in egg

shells and the egg when baking. I often include applesauce or babyfood like

squash and then throw in some veggies and fruit.

My birds love pasta with homemade sauce no meat....oatmeal is a fun

breakfast for them with some raisins or dates. They even like scramble eggs on

occasion.

I give my guys scrambled egg yolk once a month, much to the disgust of my

avian vet.

As long as it doesn't contain salt, too much sugar, caffeine, avacado,

chocolate, lima beans they pretty much can share whatever in moderation. IMHO I

just try to offer variety.

Just started a group today called Parrots Are Vegans Too! at Googl.

I'm trying to locate folks who feel that a parrot's natural diet is vegan. I

could send you an invite if you are interested. I'm attaching a PDF on Dr.

Donald Brightsmith's Macaw research.

LOL, DD... it means Dear Daughter.

That is too funny! Here I thought you were talking about a parrot. LOL

I'm not sure if Parrots are true vegans as they do sometimes ingest bugs etc

while eating. I do find the Salt Licks interesting.

Another thing I thought of is that I also buy Eucalyptus Leaves from

BudgieWorld.Bud

I was wondering where I saw that for sale. What part of the world does

BudgieWorld's owner live? Austrailia?

I have a Budgie, Lovebird, Brown Headed Parrot, IRNs, Cockatiels,

Quakers, African Grey, LSC Cockatoo, and my Macaw.

Do you give your grey Red Palm Oil? I just discovered that around Easter

Red Palm Nuts are available at one of our local grocery stores. I'm anxious to

see them and feed them. I have to find some red palm nut recipes. Have not

a clue how they are eaten.
