Okra - Does anyone knows why this veggie is called lady-fingers - so curio

Okra is called Lady's Fingers in Sri Lanka too but I don't know why.

Sure is tasty curried; that's the only way I like it :)

That is very interesting how names for the same food item, is different , even

though spoken in English, in different parts of the world.

 

I have a friend from Brazil and she is always calling sandwiches, Samies and she

has a special name for potatoes too, that I can't remember.
