Guest guest
Some of these are things I've done with DS, some I plan on doing with DD, some I've heard of doing from other moms: Take your kid on a date (lunch and a movie, sipping hot cocoa at the local coffee shop... pretty much anything you can do with your sweetie, you can modify to do with your kids) Manicures and pedicures with your DD Rollerskating A walk on the beach, at the park, by the lake... get out into nature! Get out the craft supplies and team up to make a suprise for DH/Daddy If your kids are in school and won't get embarassed by it, send flowers/balloons/card/chocolate. Spread the love to others: volunteer at a soup kitchen, visit a senior center, visit kids in the pediatric ward of a hospital... Anyone else have ideas? I never know what special things to do for them besides the usual stuffed animals and chocolates although last year we did go to a movie. Guest guest
I have 3 different heart shaped bundt pans and a muffin tin in heart shapes. I'll be using those for my coworkers and DX''s company. Guest guest
Well, my kids won't be with me on Valentine's morning and they are really busy that afternoon with regular activities (ballet, piano, etc). Also, today is my youngest daughter's 12th birthday, so I've started a few celebratory things this week. Just little things, but my kids get a kick out of it -- even my " cool " 14-year-old. For example, last night I made sugar cookies and I cut out various hearts and flower shapes. (I've been building up a collection of small sized cookie cutters - they are intended for fondant and are about 1.5 inches or less.) As a really special treat in today's lunch, I packed five of these tiny cookies with a small bag of red icing so they can pipe them and pop them in their mouths. I used a baggie for the icing and closed it with a tie wrap, trimmed off the extra, and put a festive ribbon on the end. Then I snipped the tip off the bag and " re-sealed " it with another bit of plastic -- so they only have to remove the tip and start piping away. I got this idea from Vegan Lunchbox: http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_veganlunchbox_archive.html I bought her book, by the way, and I love it. I also use the laptop lunchboxes for my kids and they are so fun to pack! (I bought them over Christmas and I haven't gotten tired of packing them yet.) I also put a salad in my kids' lunch every day and today I cut the cucumbers using the same heart cutter. I also have this pan: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/detail.jsp?id=5748 and last week I used it to make brownies for the bake sale at school. I'll use it again next week to make another treat for the kids. Since Valentines is on a Wednesday this year, my kids will be too busy for any special activities, but that would be fun to plan! Can you tell I love love holidays? ;-) Sharon Donnalilacflower wrote: > I have 3 different heart shaped bundt pans and a > muffin tin in heart shapes. Guest guest
Sharon, you are a great mom. I love that blog also but can't go there often because it makes me feel bad. I just don't have the time to do as much now that I am working. Her meals look so good. That is one cookbook and Vegan with Vengeance that I want so bad. Steph We won't tell. Guest guest
Hi Steph! Try not to feel bad - it's not a competition! She is a stay-at-home mom with _one_ child who obviously has a passion (nay, obsession) for food. Few of us have that luxury - I also work full time, I'm a single parent and have two active kids. I love the laptop lunch boxes and I love doing my own version for my kids - but it could never be compared to hers. I am grateful for the inspiration I get from her site, even though mine is mostly a pale imitation. :-) Sharon Steph wrote: > Sharon, > you are a great mom. Guest guest
Hi Steph, I don't know if their shipping prices are any better, but here are the vegan shops I've bookmarked: http://www.cosmosveganshoppe.com http://www.foodfightgrocery.com/ http://www.veganunlimited.com/ http://www.vegangoods.com/ If you sign up for their newsletters, I think Veganessentials and Cosmos send out discount codes every month or so, but even with a discount, $8 to ship marshmallows is pretty scary to me, too! :-o Hope this helps! S'mores sound great to me too :-) Peace, Maureen Steph wrote: > I went on her website to see how the whole ziploc bag thing looked it was great. she recommended veganessentials for the sprinkles and food coloring but I didnt see it there.
